**Apprentice Fitter**
**Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire**
Van Elle is one of the UK’s leading and largest ground engineering and geotechnical contractors and are looking for key individuals to join our on-going Apprenticeship programme. As an Apprentice Fitter, you will be working towards a Plant Engineer / Technician, Level 3 qualification (or higher through to degree if you so wish) and be fully supported throughout your journey.
During your apprenticeship you will develop the basic principles you will need to know how to inspect, repair and maintain both heavy construction and rail / plant machinery, so that projects can be completed both efficiently and most importantly Safely to our customers. You will gain key knowledge and experience of how the machines work, diagnose faults and be able strip down and repair them both in the workshop and on-site locations. This provides you with vital on-the-job experience and qualifications to help advance and develop your career
To support your development, you will be required to attend College to learn the vital work-based skills relevant to becoming a Qualified Plant Fitter and also be supported independently with yearly subscription to the “Society of Operating Engineers” - which helps build your professional knowledge and credibility within the industry.
**What will you study and learn**
- Engines (Petrol/Diesel and Hybrid)
- Transmission Systems
- Hydraulic / Pneumatic Systems
- Electrical and Electronic Systems
- Welding and fabrication
- Management practices and Health / Safety
- Diagnostic techniques / methodology
- Inspection, Fault Finding and Repair methodology
- Maintenance and repair of Construction based plant / equipment
- Machine operation for maintenance purposes
- Steering, Brake and Fuel systems (and ancillary systems)

**Essential Skills**:

- A desire to learn and develop with the job
- Practical and logical; able to solve problems quickly.
- A desire, passion, and willingness for how things work and interact is key
- Good organisational skills, with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy
- Preferably 3 GCSE’s at grade 4 or above including Maths and English
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Willingness to work flexibly to support the overall aims of the team and changing priorities.

**Other Requirements**:

- Eligible to work and live in the UK.
- Full clean UK driving licence would be desirable (age dependant)
