Water Treatment Operative

Scottish Water has an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated, flexible individual to join our Customer Service Delivery team as a Water Treatment Operative in the Fife area. About the Role In this role you will work as part of an experienced team who are responsible for ensuring that we provide the highest level of potable water which exceed all regulatory targets. You will monitor and maintain water treatment works and pumping stations to ensure the quality of water and working within all regulatory and legislative requirements within the geographical area. Key Accountabilities/Tasks: - Ensure all health and safety procedures are adhered to including risk assessments, etc. - Operate and maintain the plant in accordance with TOMS procedures including calibrating monitors, filters, tank levels, etc. - Check and record all necessary water quality parameters including colour, pH, chlorine, aluminium, phosphate, etc. - Participate in daily plant checks and inspections of reservoirs, dams, etc. to ensure early identification and resolution of problems. - Ensure all information is accurately and timeously recorded for audit purposes. - Provide emergency cover to Water Treatment Works whenever required and in accordance with TOMS response procedures. - Issue permit to work to all relevant contractors and ensure they follow all health and safety procedures. - Participate in a Water Treatment Operational Standby Rota. - Support Capital projects with input and operational experience to ensure successful delivery, while minimising risk to service. - Ensure all appropriate measure are taken to protect public health by complying with processes and liaising with appropriate stakeholders when quality triggers are breached. - To understand automatic control systems and be able to interrogate HMI and SCADA to analyse WQ parameters and trends to effectively diagnose faults, eliminating the risk of non-compliant water leaving the works and being delivered to our customer. - Have technical understanding of Water Quality on the assets which they are trained to operate via our Competent Operator framework, including but not limited to Water chemistry, Membrane pressure mgmt. and waste discharges. - Comply with environmental regulations to ensure the production of drinking water does not adversely affect the environment. Essential Skills, Knowledge & Experience Required: - Have good verbal and written communication skills. - Be confident to work on your own, taking responsibility for ensuring regular tasks are carried out in a timely and efficient way. - Have a strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately record information and to spot changes in monitoring records which may need addressed. - Have strong problem solving skills and a dedication to find a solution to any issues that arise within the site. - Have experience or an understanding of working within a strong Health & Safety culture to ensure that all Health and Safety policies and procedures are adhered to. - Be a quick learner, with the ability to use new computer systems and on-line learning modules which are essential to the role. - Be a strong team player, who can work well with others to achieve common goals. - A valid driving licence is essential and a vehicle will be provided Desirable Skills: - A knowledge of water treatment processes - Experience in water distribution systems and health and safety procedures - Confident using various systems and computer literate - Mechanical maintenance experience Salary Range: £21,053 to £28,425 (dependent on skills and experience) You can also expect: - 38 days of holiday per year (pro rata) with the option to buy 5 more- Eligibility to join the defined benefit, contributory pension scheme- Annual company bonus- Life assurance scheme- Paid time off for community volunteering- Opportunities to be involved in sports, social and fundraising activities- Access to "SW Splash", saving you money on holidays, bills and shopping- Excellent family friendly policies around Adoption, Maternity, Parental Leave, and Flexible Working Do you have any support needs? here Working at Scottish Water Scottish Water is one of the UK's leading water companies, the quality of drinking water and satisfaction with the service we provide our customers has never been higher - but we want to be even better - and you could help play an important part We take employee engagement very seriously and have an inclusive and collaborative work environment where we respect people’s differences.
