**Welfare Officer** **Job Type**: Part Time 20 hours per week **Location**: Wrexham **Salary**: Grade 8 £14,208 - £15,787 per annum - Are you someone with the right experience to work as a Welfare Officer in a care organisation with a friendly supportive atmosphere where you can truly make a difference to the people you will visit_. **Main purpose of the role** To visit beneficiaries in necessitous circumstances and identify their needs and put in place appropriate services enabling them to remain as independent as possible in their own home. **The Role** Your day will always be interesting dealing with the issues arising from visiting vulnerable elderly retired in their own homes in and around the Wrexham area. One minute you may be a listening ear, sorting out a query, carrying out assessments and makingreferrals, generally checking on their welfare or arranging a luncheon get together or outing for your "patch. One thing is common to all visits - all have a connection with Pilkington NSG through employment. Your compassionate understanding of older peoples’ needs and your enthusiasm and motivation will be welcomed. You will be able to put into practice your knowledge of State Benefits as well as your excellent communication skills. Of course, scheduling andrecording the outcome of your visits will be vital so good computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office will be needed. **Main Duties and Responsibilities** - To visit beneficiaries in their own homes. - To carry out assessments on beneficiaries and make appropriate referrals. - To visit new retirees and assess for level of visiting required. - To accept referrals from external bodies and take appropriate action. - To acquire full knowledge of the Welfare Programme and a working knowledge of State Benefits and all other associated benefits available to older people. - To maintain accurate and up to date administration records. - To represent the charity on external bodies as and when required - To attend Welfare Officer Meetings and any appropriate training activities. - To arrange and attend various pensioners’ activities including lunches, outings and self-help group functions. **Role Requirements** Skills/Qualifications - Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care or qualification of the same standard - Must preferably be educated to GCSE standard to Grade C/5 or above. - Full, clean driving licence essential. - Good computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office - Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. - Articulate and observant with a high level of tolerance, with good listening skills - Good organisational skills and ability to plan and prioritise own workload is essential. Experience - Must be experienced in working with older people in unsupervised situations. - Must demonstrate proven experience in assessing individual care needs. - Experience of building good working relationships with colleagues, retirees and outside agencies is essential. - Experience of working as part of a team and working in isolation. - Experience of working/liaising with other agencies would be an advantage e.g. Health professionals/Care Agencies etc. - Basic knowledge of state benefits is desirable - Experience of holding meetings and speaking to groups is desirable. **Additional information** The job is based from home, Monday to Friday giving you a work life balance as you plan your visits over 20 hours a week.
