An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the 0-19 Service at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust as a 0-19 Health Screener.

The post holder will be a key member of the 0-19 Service, who provides Community Public Health delivery through the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP), The post is within the Fantastic 5-19 Team component of the Service, who effectively deliver Health Promotion and Support the delivery of the NCMP Programme to ensure that the children and young people in Sheffield reach their full potential safely.

The 0-19 Health Screener will be an excellent communicator, and have good interpersonal skills, have experience of working with children, young People and families, and able to function well as part of a Team, and wider Partners.
- Working as a member and supporting the school nursing team in public health, clinical, non-clinical and clerical duties, to enable children and young people to access their education, and make informed healthy lifestyle choices.
- Supporting the School Nursing Team to deliver the 5-19 Healthy Child Programme and assist the delivery of public health programmes, workshops, and displays and complete clerical/administration duties.
- Working as a member of the 0-19 School Nursing Team and independently in schools to carry out screening of hearing, height and weight of school-aged children under specific policy protocols and guidance.

Undertake clinical duties to meet the needs of individual children and young people. There is an expectation that training will be undertaken and provided to fulfil the role safely and effectively.

Work under indirect supervision independently in schools; carry out screening of hearing, height and weight, (including the National Child Measurement Programme), as per Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust policy, protocols and guidance. Where any general concerns are observed using own judgement informs the school nurse.

Management of screening administration and other clerical duties.

Where requested assist in the set up and delivery of community based screening clinics, ensuring parents are appropriately notified of appointments and that booking lists are up to date.

Contribute to the support of children, young people and their families to maximise educational opportunities in order to develop their full potential in line with Every Child Matters outcomes.
