**Directorate/Department: Professional Standards Directorate**

**Vetting level required: MV/SC**
- Please note if at the time of selection, you do not have the appropriate level of vetting you will need to undergo the vetting process, which will determine whether you can move to the role if selected. _

**Location**:New Street, London**

**Salary: As per national pay scales**

**Statement of expectation for the role**:There is an expectation that you will remain in post for a minimum of 2 years due to the investment in training.**

Are you already a PIP2 Detective Constable, and seeking a new challenge in a varied role? Are you a PC who is considering a career as a Detective Constable? We are looking for four new team members to join our team as part of a permanent uplift in resourcing.

Specifically, we are seeking 2 x constables to join our PSD Misconduct Investigation team and 2 x constables to join our CCU team.

**PSD Misconduct**

The role itself is both varied and exciting, and there is scope to make a tangible difference to the organisation. As an investigator you will find yourself being involved in a range of complex investigations, which is both demanding but rewarding.

You will also provide support to members of staff and the public who have made complaints. At the core of this role is a desire to support both colleagues and organisation, and to promote the standards of professional behaviour.

Within the role you will work within a small team of both police and civilian investigators, dealing with allegations of misconduct. This will require the individual to have a strong investigative mindset, so that cases can be progressed. As part of this process case will be prepared so that the Appropriate Authority make the required decision as to whether or not a case is sent to Hearing or Misconduct Meeting. A small number of allegations also meet the threshold of criminal liability, and as a result a strong understanding of this process is required.

Key to the role is the ability to work with other areas within the City of London Police, and to be able to network with partners such as the Independent Office for Police Complaints (IOPC). This creates the opportunity to collaborate and build relationships, both internally and externally.

PSD also has primacy over cases which result in Death or Serious Injury, as defined under the Police Reform Act. As a result there is an expectation that you will be part of an ‘on call’ rota.

**Counter Corruption Unit (CCU)**

The Counter Corruption Unit sits along side the Professional Standards Department, with the main purpose of developing covert intelligence, and disseminating it to PSD Misconduct team for overt investigation. The work of the unit is also to support the City of London Police in protecting both staff and the wider public from corruption threats.

CCU Key Strategy is to:

- Prevent corruption in The City of London Police
- Protect people from the risks and effects of corrupt behaviour
- Pursue, prosecute, and disrupt corrupt individuals and corrupt practices.

CCU is responsible for gathering, assessing, and developing information and intelligence relating to unethical behaviour. The CCU conducts investigations into suspected corruption and provides advice and guidance to colleagues to reduce areas of personal and organisational vulnerability.
- Handles intelligence in accordance with legislation and policy.
- Manages confidential reports into the CCU.
- Provides a timely and proportionate response to allegations of corrupt behaviour and threats to the integrity and reputation of the Force.
- Examines business relationships to make sure they are transparent, declared and managed appropriately.
- Identifies and proactively examine information from system audits.
- Protects the Force through early engagement with individuals who may be vulnerable to compromise; including the management and risk assessment of Notifiable Associations.
- Actively supports the College of Policing Code of Ethics and reflects the Force Values of Integrity, Fairness and Professionalism.
- Engages with staff to raise awareness of their responsibilities and expected standards of professional behaviour both on and off duty.
- Work directly to the Detective Sergeant, supporting the Senior Management Team
- The individual will support the force’s Counter Corruption Control Strategy

Both the PSD and the CCU role will provide the successful applicants with an invaluable opportunity to gain an insight into a highly specialist area of policing seldom seen outside of Professional Standards. This is also an excellent opportunity for people seeking to develop their persona skills, network with external partners and forces and develop their supervisory skills.

**Desirable for role**
- Have a good understanding of Force Information systems
- Excellent IT Skills
- Knowledge of the Force
