An exciting opportunity has arisen for a self-starting, and highly-motivated individual for the post of DXA Health Care Support Worker, within Swansea Locality, as part of the Nuclear Medicine Department within Swansea Bay University Health Board.

The post holder will be a core team member of the Nuclear Medicine, which providing technical and administrative support to the DXA, PET/CT and Imaging sections of Nuclear Medicine in Singleton Hospital. including providing information to patients ahead of their complex appointments and ensuring adherence to preparation for examinations.

We are looking for an individual who has excellent communication skills, be able to work effectively within a team and be efficient and organised with their own workload. This post would be suitable for applicants with good attention to detail, strong administrative skills, good keyboard skills, and are familiar with Microsoft office programmes.

This post is based at Singleton Hospital.

Nuclear Medicine is a highly specialized service providing Radiopharmaceuticals, Diagnostic Investigations, Radionuclide Therapy, PET/CT and DXA scans to patients of Local Health Boards in the South West Wales Area.

Within this service the post holder will be part of a highly skilled team involved in the provision of the diagnostic and DXA service in South West Wales, providing support to the Healthcare Scientists in the provision of the Nuclear Medicine DXA services. The post-holder will be the initial contact in the patient journey within Nuclear Medicine.

The post holder will be expected to liaise with technical, nursing staff and patients to deliver an efficient nuclear medicine service.

They will be expected to manage the entry of patient data onto specific databases, maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.

To work strictly within the context of their duties and to undertake reasonable and relevant duties as may be considered necessary by the Clinical Team Manager and the Head of Nuclear Medicine.

The post holder will be able to demonstrate an ability to work under his/her own initiative. A key element of this post is understanding and dealing with frequently changing priorities in order to respond to internal and external requests, some of which may be urgent and/or complicated. Often this will involve dealing with patients who are unwell, in pain, upset or angry.

To deal politely and effectively with patient enquiries, on all aspects of the Nuclear Medicine service (including DXA and PET/CT), either by telephone or in person, ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times;
To carry out an initial patient assessment in the form of a patient questionnaire ensuring the data collected is accurate, and provides accurate patient measurements for the scanning technologist. This may include obtaining data from hard of hearing patients;
To lead in the scheduling of DXA patient appointments and to take part in the scheduling of other imaging modalities in the department in accordance with guidelines and with regard to current waiting lists;
To lead on management of the receipt, logging and routing of referrals, then filing in the appropriate files in line with current practice;

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
