At the heart of this mission is the _REV Ocean_ vessel, a state-of-the-art research platform dedicated to ocean exploration, scientific discovery, and advancing solutions for ocean sustainability.

**The Vessel**
- REV Ocean_ is unlike any other ship. It is equipped with some of the most sophisticated facilities onboard for carrying out cutting-edge ocean science, as well as offering charter opportunities designed to integrate exploration, adventure, and science. _REV Ocean _will operate as a research vessel for 2/3 of the year and be available for charters for 1/3 of the year.

The Bosun is responsible for managing the day-to-day schedule of deckhands and ensuring that all deck operations and maintenance is completed as required in a safe, secure, and efficient manner, as per Chief Officers instructions. As a senior deck crew member, the bosun, may be required to take on further responsibilities as requested by the Bridge officers. This job description covers both the night bosun and the day bosun roles on board REV, however the daytime Bosun is considered the more senior position.

**Education/Experience/Qualifications**:

- Valid STCW95 certification.
- Appropriate certification as required by regulations, including STCW Reg.II/5 and STCW Reg.V/2
- Good understanding of exterior maintenance and repair.
- Must be fully proficient in operating tender boats and rescue boats.
- Extensive experience in subordinate positions and on board passenger ships in a similar role.
- Physically and medically fit.
- Moral integrity is required.
- Coast Guard and Port State Control experience.

**Language requirements**:
Fluent English (verbal, written and technical). English is the working and safety language on board. This also includes the ability to give and receive instructions in verbal and written forms and to effectively and efficiently engage with guests and crew members. Additional languages are considered beneficial.

**Physical Demands and Working Conditions**:
Required to stand, walk long distances, reaching and sitting. Repetitive motion of bending, going up and down stairs, climbing ladders. Lifting or pushing of up to 50lbs. The position requires overtime work and irregular schedules. Works in all areas of the vessel with light traffic and distracting environments.

**Key Responsibilities**:
Key responsibilities and duties include:

- Support the Captain in ensuring the ship’s compliance with company policies and procedures as well as international, state, or local maritime regulations.
- Support the Captain in ensuring the ship’s compliance with International Safety Management (ISM), classification society rules, and Maritime Insurance, within his/her area of responsibility.
- Support the Captain in achieving REV Objectives (safety, quality and environmental).
- Assist the Chief Officer as required with management of deck stocks, equipment, purchasing, preparation for voyages, maintenance, and deck operations.
- Monitor QHSE in all deck tasks and operations and report any issues, discrepancies, accidents, or incidents immediately to the bridge.
- Be familiar with emergency duties and assist in emergency situations as required.
- Partake in emergency drills and training as and when required.
- Assist the Chief Officer in deck planning and schedules as required.
- Manage, instruct, supervise, coordinate and work alongside the deck team to ensure upkeep and maintenance of all deck spaces, stores, and equipment.
- Assist in operations as required, including helicopter operations, bridge look-out, science operations (including deployment and recovery), small boat operations, in port night watches, mooring, DP reference system etc.
- Take charge of trawling operations in coordination with bridge.
- Protect deck spaces and equipment as required, including securing of cargo and or equipment on deck.
