Job Purpose
To work with children between the ages of 8-18. You will be promoting a trauma informed practice, whilst ensuring you are meeting the day to day needs of young people.
Our residential care workers are skilled in the development of relationships with young people and committed to making a difference of the young people in your care.
Main
**Responsibilities**:
- To provide high quality of care and support which holistically meet the needs of the young people in your care, working within the guidelines of legislation such as the Children Act 1989 Care Standards act etc
- To be an advocate for looked after children living within the home.
- To develop and maintain positive relationships with the young people
- To be involved in care planning and have an understanding of assessing needs
- To liaise with external members of the young persons care team
- Promote a healthy and meaningful lifestyle for the young people within your care
- Attend to practical matters relating to childcare (such as cooking, cleaning, promoting self care)
- Provide emotional support and assistance on a 1:1 basis to address past and present difficulties
- Empower our young people to and facilitate their active involvement in the decision making about their lives and future
- Encourage young people to attend and engage with education
- To work effectively as a member of the care team
- To understand and promote the ethos of Here and Now Children’s Services
- Provide supervision and mentoring staff
- Attend staff meetings and actively contribute to them
- Attend regular supervision and reflective sessions
- Monitor the conduct of colleagues and referring on any causes for concern
- Manage the day to day service that meets the requirements of Here and Now Children’s Services and the regulating bodies expectations of good/outstanding service through robust planning, review, monitoring and multi-agency working.
- Providing exceptional leadership and being held accountable for achieving positive outcomes for children
- Be involved in assessments, formulation and forward planning for the children and young people
- Adopt the AMBIT model to help support staff with metallisation and aid the therapeutic approach toward the children.
- Keep accurate records and provide written reports on the young people to inform their care plan.
Professional Development
- Undertake all induction and mandatory training identified by Here and Now Children’s Service
- To develop good working relationships with all of our children and young people, staff and relevant external agencies-where appropriate
- Engage in regular CPD
- To undertake level 3 in children and young people
- To identify training areas of interest to your career development which promotes the ethos of Here and Now Children’s Services
Other
- To hold a full clean UK driving license
- To be able to cover shift patterns to provide a 24hour service including waking nights and sleep ins.
Person Specification

**Qualifications**:
- Educated to GCSE level
- Commitment to attain the necessary qualifications
Knowledge and Experience
- Experience in working with children and young people experiencing emotional distress
- Previous experience in working in residential childcare settings (desirable)
Skills, Abilities and qualities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Good ability to develop and maintain relationships with young people and staff
- Ability to handle difficult situations in a sensitive and respectful manner
- Good attention to detail
- Ability to work within OFSTED framework
- Be physically able to engage in activities with young people

- Engage in the DBS process prior to commencing the role
