Birmingham, United Kingdom National Trust Full time

This isn’t your average kayak or paddleboard instructor job advert, this is an opportunity to work in an unique environment, as part of a fantastic and upbeat team. As a Paddlesport Guide at Roundhouse Birmingham, you’ll be leading a variety of tours along our amazing canals and making sure our guests have a truly outstanding experience.

What it's like to work here:We want to ‘do things differently, see things differently, and care for things differently’, and our staff team really embrace this and bring the Roundhouse’s ‘smiley’ ethos to life. You will join a small, but energetic team, of around ten members of staff and around sixty Volunteers, with some work alongside colleagues at the National Trust and Canal & River Trust. Reporting into our Programming and Partnerships Manager, you'll work alongside our existing Kayak Guide, Volunteer Experience Officer and Operations Manager, working both independently and with a diverse range of external partners and Volunteers to ensure that our tours happen.

What you'll be doing:We have an exciting opportunity for a qualified Paddlesport instructor who is passionate about delivering high levels of customer service. We have built a reputation of producing outstanding experiences and you will help with maintaining these levels.

You will be involved in every part of the visitor’s journey, from when they arrive at the Roundhouse and check-in, through to when they leave the building. As part of, this you will need to deliver briefings, conduct health and safety checks, equipment checks, liaise with our volunteers and staff regarding administration of the tours, as well as delivering engaging and professional tours.

Alongside interacting with the public, your role will include maintaining equipment and monitoring stock. Together with colleagues, you will be responsible for managing the equipment store and ensuring everything is tidy and compliant. You will work with our Volunteers and support their training and development as guides.

You'll be leading kayak and stand up paddleboard experiences, which layer history and heritage, and we have great resources to help you learn everything that you need to know to bring the history of the canals to life.
