Coffee Shop Assistant

**Hours and Shifts**:
37.5 hours - **Saturday to Wednesday (5 days a week)**

** Thursday and Friday Day off**

As a purpose-built visual arts and craft building, the venue comprises of an 110sqm gallery, artists’ studios and a workshop space for participatory classes, this is a busy and exciting place to work.

Striving to be a flagship visual arts venue in West Berkshire, The Natural History Museum’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year 54 exhibition launched the inaugural gallery programme. Displaying some of the best wildlife photography from across the globe, the exhibition comprised of 100 photograph across 7 categories and is renowned for attracting millions of visitors around the world every year.

The Base is also home to 8 visual artists and craft makers as well as Open Studios West Berkshire and North Hampshire, who present their annual INSIGHT exhibition at The Base every May.

By Car: there is a free car park on site for staff and visitors. The Base is under 10 minutes from the centre of Newbury and just 10 minutes from the Tothill junction of the A34 with easy access to the M3 and M4.

**Duties and responsibilities**

** Deliver excellent customer service whilst**:

- Waiting on tables
- Supporting with any events as required
- Answering telephone enquiries and taking orders over the telephone
- Preparing food and drinks (check temperatures in line with company Food Safety guidelines)
- Clearing tables and washing up
- Engaging with customers
- Support the manager/supervisor in dealing with customer complaints and handle them professionally and appropriately.
- Use the work laptop as appropriate

** Open up coffee shop for service**:

- Take delivery of goods from the wholesale unit and display / put away. Report any shortages
- Stock rotation and check dates on products
- Display products and price
- Amend menu board with specials / remove any out of stock items
- Do fridge checks and temperature checks on delivery
- Check coffee shop is clean and tidy and ready for service (sugar bowls, clean tables etc)

** General Duties**:

- Ensuring entire shop is clean and tidy, items are replenished for the next day
- Sweep / mop floors
- Clean toilets, mop floor (in relevant shops)
- Tidy and clean outdoor areas
- Tidy stockroom
- Check all equipment is cleaned and switched off
- Place orders with Head Office for stock items / products
- Log waste
- Cash up and place cash in safe place
- Lock up
- Support the manager/supervisor with creating inspirational social media content
