Role Purpose**:
The role of the Infrastructure Monitoring Engineer is to monitor and manage the client infrastructure estate and services using the suites of monitoring and maintenance tools currently deployed across the client estate. The role will involve monitoring allelements of the client's infrastructure, such as, performance of compute (Virtual and Physical), VMware Hypervisors and Clusters, hardware health (Chassis, SAN, Blades), storage capacity, infrastructure services, security components and backups. Capacity planning,developing the monitoring systems, housekeeping, threshold configuring.
**Responsibilities**:
- Maintain and manage current infrastructure monitoring tools
- Carry out audits across the infrastructure to ensure device availability is captured
- Maintenance and production of technical documentation around monitoring tools, including troubleshooting documents for alert types
- Configuration of infrastructure alerting, define thresholds, create shared dashboards across the infrastructure teams and monthly reporting
- Capacity planning and reporting for storage
- Ability to work as part of a dynamic agile team across multiple client sites
- Be part of problem management sessions in relation to the client infrastructure and monitoring
- Work alongside a skilled team of Infrastructure Engineers at the client sites. Escalating alerts for remediation when required.
- Monitoring of VMware infrastructure, hypervisors and underlying hardware
- Monitoring of Wintel servers, Linux workloads and Enterprise Storage Platforms
- Supporting remote customer sites working with multiple infrastructure teams
- Provide reports on monitoring, availability & capacity to Service Management
**Essential Skills**:
- To work with our talented team and our client you would need to have Security Clearance or be prepared to become Security Cleared
- Experience of large, diverse IT infrastructures and/or network from operational or support roles
- Understanding of SNMP and monitoring agents
- Working with and understanding Event Management data (eventlogs, syslogs, etc)
- Excellent communications skills, organisational skills and independent and autonomous working
- Demonstrable ability to adapt to new technologies, skillsets and to learn quickly
- Basic knowledge of Wintel environments
- Basic knowledge of Linux/Unix and CLI usage/commands
- Knowledge of VMware vSphere performance monitoring
- Knowledge of hardware vendors such as HPE and configuration of monitoring
- People skills: able to motive, influence and drive individuals both inside and outside of their direct management
- Provide up to date and accurate reporting to client
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in MS-Windows or Linux administration in a data centre environment
Experience in capacity planning
**Desirable Skills**:
- Experience working in a NOC
- Experience with Confluence and Jira
- Scripting around Automation and Monitoring (Powershell, Ansible, etc)
- SAN and Backup System Management
- Any Microsoft Certifications
- Experience working in a large enterprise virtualised environment
- ITIL Foundation v4 or Intermediate certification
