**About the opportunity**

The Rail and Geotechnical Business unit consists of over 875 people, with people located in virtually every office within the UK. The rail part of the business includes Network Rail, TfL and HS2 amongst its biggest clients, with the geotechnical business serving virtually every operating unit within BIAF as well as cross line of activities into the nuclear and mining sectors.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, confident and experienced OLE Technical Lead engineer to join our growing, world-class rail business. You will act as the focal point and lead of all technical and quality aspects of our OLE design delivery, be involved leading project delivery, the championing the development of junior staff members, whilst having the opportunity to develop your career and shape exciting projects in the UK and overseas.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Providing Technical Leadership for OLE within Jacobs national design team
- Develop Staff through targeted training and competency planning
- Lead implementation of design tools and design automation
- Lead innovation within the OLE Design team
- Act as OLE Design CRE on projects
- Carrying out railway electrification design, checking and approvals associated with system, basic, allocation and construction design activities.
- CEM opportunities can form part of this role if desired.

**Other responsibilities will include;**
- Preparation of design drawings OLE layout plans, bonding plans, OLE cross sections, isolation diagrams/instructions
- Preparation of design report and submissions.
- Preparation of technical specifications
- Preparation of technical reports
- Undertaking site surveys. Understanding of railway, UK national and international standards.
- Briefings of Standard Updates, Safety Bullins and Process Implementations
- Efficient working in home, design office and site environments

**Here’s What You’ll Need**:

- Substantial OLE design experience. Preferably Chartered Engineer or an intent to work towards Chartered Engineer status
- An appropriate degree (e.g. BEng in Mechanical or Civil Engineering) or a HNC/HND in HNC /HND in Engineering and a member of a relevant institution (e.g. IMechE).
- Extensive experience working for an engineering consultancy within the rail sector
- Experience in OLE design throughout project lifecycles.
- Detailed knowledge and experience of Network Rail design approval process at CRE level.
- Technical design experience to carry out supervision and project management of staff.
- Capability of producing and checking a wide variety of OLE design details.
- Experience of designing with standard UK OLE design ranges and switching types
- An understanding of system engineering concepts and safety management.
- Familiarity with construction and installation methods.
- Ability to write and check reports and specifications.
- Understanding of BIM
