Youth Support Worker Role Profile
**Launch Your Youth Work Career in Plymouth's Vibrant Natural Heart**
- Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people while embracing the great outdoors? The Tamara Landscape Partnership, in collaboration with Plymouth City Council at the dynamic Poole Farm (Derriford Community Park), offers a truly contemporary and exciting Traineeship in Youth Work. This is your chance to be at the forefront of a growing sector, empowering young people to connect with and enjoy being in nature, within a unique natural setting nestled in the heart of the city.
- This traineeship isn't just about gaining experience; it's about shaping futures. You'll be instrumental in promoting wellbeing and vital life skills for young people aged 11-19 (up to 25 with SEND), especially young people who identify as Special Education Needs & Disabilities (SEND) and Seeking Employment, Education & Training (SEET). This incredible opportunity is part funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund in Partnership with the Tamara Landscape Partnership, and Plymouth City Councils Community Youth Work Team, demonstrating a significant investment in the future of young people and the Tamar Valley.
**Here’s what makes this opportunity stand out**:
- Nature as Your Classroom: Immerse yourself in the inspiring setting of Poole Farm, a hub for conservation, green skills, and wellbeing within Derriford Community Park. You'll directly engage young people with hands-on, nature-based activities such as animal care, conservation volunteering, and potentially EcoTherapy.
- Championing Wellbeing: Play a crucial role in enhancing the mental health and overall wellbeing of young people through the proven benefits of connecting with nature.
- Developing Future-Ready Skills: Equip young people with practical green skills, including conservation techniques, animal husbandry, bush craft, and understanding green estate management - skills increasingly vital in today's evolving world. This aligns with the growing recognition of green skills opportunities and the importance of youth involvement in a Net Zero future.
- Collaborative Impact: Work alongside experienced professionals and partner organisations like the National Trust, contributing to impactful youth work programs focused on nature and skill development.
- Diverse Experiences: Gain exposure to a broad spectrum of youth work settings, potentially including youth clubs, outreach work (detached), conservation projects, and EcoTherapy initiatives, providing a well-rounded foundation for your career. Poole Farm runs activities such as open access Youth Clubs, EcoTherapy, and the ranger cloth and digital badge scheme.
- Professional Growth: Benefit from shadowing experienced colleagues, participating in valuable training, hands on youth work and Nature Connection.
- Contributing to a Vision: Be part of the Tamara Landscape Partnership's project to create a brighter future for the Tamar Valley, focusing on positive change and developing skills for the community. Your work will directly contribute to the shared objectives of improving young people's health and wellbeing, equipping them for work and life, and empowering them as active community members.
- This traineeship, generously supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, offers a fantastic entry point into the rewarding field of youth work, providing you with contemporary skills and invaluable experience in a sector that is increasingly focused on the holistic development of young people within natural environments. Don't miss this exciting opportunity to make a real difference while building a fulfilling career
