Exeter, United Kingdom University of Exeter Full time

The University of Exeter is one of the world’s leading universities. As a member of the Russell Group of top UK research-intensive universities, it is placed 137th in the world according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, and ranks in the top 15 in prestigious national league tables.

The University has a proud history and has grown from its roots in the South West of England to be a truly inclusive and diverse global university with a community of around 30,000 students from more than 150 countries, and 6,400 staff working across four campuses in Devon and Cornwall. In addition, we have more than 150,000 alumni, academics and global university partners that bring the world to Exeter and take Exeter to the world.

This is an exciting time for the University. In October 2021, we launched our ambitious Strategy 2030, which aims to use our outstanding education, research and global connections to create a sustainable, healthy and socially just future. In order to help achieve this vision of solving the challenges of today and tomorrow, the University is now seeking to appoint a new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Impact).

As a key member of the University Executive Board, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Impact) works with senior leaders across the University to position Exeter as a global 100 leader. They are responsible for leading the development and delivery of the University’s Research and Impact Strategy, as well as enhancing interdisciplinary working and developing new initiatives which address national and global priorities. They will play a major role in developing and delivering our 2030 academic investment plans and will lead on exciting new research initiatives.

They also lead new plans and policies for enhancing research quality, global reputation, cost recovery and income generation. They will horizon scan to spot new opportunities for Exeter, formulating plans for investment in people and infrastructure to support such opportunities, whilst developing a strong external network of partnerships, including with funders and the Government.

The next Deputy Vice-Chancellor will combine an excellent personal academic standing with a proven track record of effective leadership and management within a complex research-led institution. Able to think and operate strategically, they will possess an inclusive and collaborative approach in line with our University values, allowing them to build strong networks internally and externally.
