Inpatient Patient Flow Coordinator- Ophthalmology

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dedicated multi-tasked patient access officer to join our Inpatient team based at Broomfield Hospital Chelmsford.
The post holder will provide robust admin support to the Vanguard theatre, the ward clerk and the Inpatient Junior Service Manager for Ophthalmology. The post holder must have the ability to be flexible and adaptable for the changing needs of the service.
Previous experience of working in a fast paced 'In patient/Patient Access' waiting list environment would be advantageous, however, full training will be provided. Excellent organisational skills, a confident telephone manner, good IT skills, and understanding of Service Change/development with previous experience of working in the NHS or within healthcare.
To provide a comprehensive professional and efficient patient monitoring within prescribed timescales.
To monitor patients admitted pathway from referral to treatment for Ophthalmology in accordance with the Trust’s Patient Access Policy and the NHS Constitution. These include RTT 18 weeks target and 31 and 62 day cancer targets.
To ensure efficient use of theatres.
Ensure all patients details are entered and updated accurately on to Lorenzo system and Theatreman.
Responsible for effective communication with Consultants and clinical teams, patients, relatives, General Practitioners

- To navigate patients through their care pathway from point of referral through to treatment and continuous care in accordance with locally and nationally defined timescales using hospital IT systems
- To ensure, in consultation with the referring Trust if necessary, that all referrals into the speciality include the minimum data set required to enable them to be registered. This includes ensuring that ‘clock starts’ and ‘clock stops’ are correct.
- To support the Patient Access Supervisor to ensure the service operates as efficiently as possible. This includes identifying capacity problems and working with others to implement solutions where appropriate
- To pre-empt potential breaches of the patient pathway, use initiative to ensure breaches are avoided (and where this is not possible, follow the agreed process for escalation). This will include challenging the progress of patients’ journeys with relevant members of staff
- To actively alter patients’ appointments/admissions at own discretion through communication and instruction to service areas and relevant staff. Ensure that patients and their carers are fully aware of any alteration
