**Job Outline - P/T Female Support worker 10hrs per week**

**Personal Assistant **to a previously very active, young at heart 86yr old lady in the Drongan area of East Ayrshire

10 hours per week, but will consider job share

**Salary**

£10.50 per hour

**Job Purpose**

To work closely and flexibly with a family to support the lady to be as independent as possible following her stroke. To ensure she is appropriately supported with the tasks outlined below within her own home, that she shares with her husband.

**Employer**

You will be employed by the family, who will be assisted to administer payroll and undertake the necessary employment support responsibilities by a relevant support organisation.
- Support to toilet x twice
- Laundry (wash, dry, put away, some ironing)
- Making drinks
- Support with food planning for day/next day
- Support with fridge & freezer check / stock rotation
- Support with cupboards check / stock rotation
- Adding items to shopping list / online food order
- Provide a 2nd pair of hands to support her husband to provide walking practice
- Provide support to check weekly / monthly appointments schedule
- Support occasional trips out
- Support personal interests / hobbies
- Support evening meal preparation and serving
- Other tasks as required

**Being flexible is a key component to this job as you will be required for 1 shift per day, either 2hrs in the morning between 9am and 12 or between 1pm and 6pm.**

5 Days a week, days and times to be discussed at interview.

**Training**

You will be expected to undergo any training relevant to her needs if requested.

Demonstrable experience of supporting people to fulfil their potential and have active lives.

An understanding of how to support and facilitate in a way that empowers the person.

Good interpersonal skills and values reflecting social inclusion.

Excellent and effective communication skills.

Excellent listening skills.

Understands the crucial role that family carers play and the value of their contribution.

Working knowledge of good person-centred practice.

Experience

Can draw on experience of positively supporting someone in a care setting.

Can engage effectively and work in partnership with others.

Have supported people to achieve positive outcomes in their life.

**Personal Qualities**

The family are looking for someone with a good sense of humour, down to earth, likes a good blether and a bit of banter but is also a good listener.

Ideally, you would share some of the lady’s interests.

**The Persons interests are**:

- Cooking
- Gardening
- Arts and crafts
- Occasional TV with a preference for nature, documentary, some quizzes
- Church
- Keeping up with friends and other craft workers via social media

There is a 6 months probationary period attached to this post

Successful applicant will have to undergo a new or update of the PVG disclosure scheme
