**Assistant Grounds Operative**

**Salary from £26,216 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £26,356 pa inclusive of London allowance**

**This is a fixed term appointment for 12 months**

**_ Working pattern primarily: Monday to Friday 06.30 - 14.30 with one hour lunch break (35 hours per week, 1FTE)_**

The post holder will be an integral member of the Facilities Management Team within a multifaceted Estates Division.

The post holder will be responsible for the grounds maintenance work in relation to landscaping, and paths across the campus.

Working as an integral part of the Facilities Management team, the Assistant Grounds Operative (Campus) will undertake both planned and reactive maintenance tasks relating to the grounds and pathways, gardens, plants and ponds ensuring the healthy development of the landscaped ensuring they are completed to the appropriate standards.

Main duties and responsibilities for this role include plant watering, path clearance, clearing leaves, litter picking, jet washing paths and using hand tools and powered machinery to ensure all sites and external areas are maintained to a high standard. You will need to deliver additional services during the winter, such as gritting, clearing snow and installing Christmas trees.

The services that will be managed include (but are not necessarily limited to):

- Plant watering
- Irrigation control through checking timers and ensuring no breaks in the water lines visually
- Reflecting pond maintenance through adding dye and refilling up the pond if required.
- Path clearance/cleaning/jet washing
- Snow clearance and gritting.

Additionally, you will report to management with relevant information regarding site hazards, operate a range of vehicles, machinery and equipment in accordance with health and safety procedures, and undertake additional training as and when required.

We are looking for someone who can meet the knowledge and experience:

- Experience of data logging and completing check sheets
- Use of equipment in line with PUWER 1998 Regulations
- Awareness of Health and Safety Legislation.
- Ability to communicate clearly and accurately to staff, students and contractors both verbally and in writing showing common sense and judgement.
- Evidence of problem-solving abilities to the standards required and in line with current practices and procedures, often under pressure in line with deadlines
- Knowledge of MS Word, Outlook and Excel, Power Point, CAFM (Planon).

This role will require wearing provided uniform relevant to the department, including the use of all appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary.
