As part of the dynamic Children and Young People’s Safeguarding Group at Shropshire Council, you will play a vital role in shaping the future of children's services, ensuring that children and young people in the region are safe, supported, and empowered to live their best lives. Your role will be central to improving outcomes, leading child protection conferences, and overseeing the statutory reviews of children in care.

Job Title: Independent Reviewing Officer/ Conference Chair

Hours Per Week: 37

Pay Rate: £38.00 - £48.30 (per hour)

**Responsibilities**:

- Chair **Statutory Looked After Children (LAC) Reviews** and **Child Protection Conferences**, ensuring plans are appropriate and achievable.
- Monitor and implement care plans in accordance with statutory guidance, ensuring there are no delays.
- Promote active **participation of children, parents, and carers** in review meetings to ensure a child-centred approach.
- Contribute to **quality assurance** processes, ensuring high standards and service improvements.
- Support the **development of policies** and procedures related to children's services, while staying up-to-date with new legislation and research.
- Prepare and submit **data for statutory returns** and other management information reports.
- Collaborate with multi-agency partners to ensure effective outcomes for children and young people.
- Handle conflict resolution and assist in complaints investigations related to Children's Services.
- Contribute to **local safeguarding** initiatives and council-wide strategic goals.

**Skills and Qualifications**:

- **In-depth knowledge** of child protection legislation, policies, and best practices.
- Strong **leadership skills** with the ability to chair high-stakes meetings involving vulnerable children.
- Proven ability to work **collaboratively with multi-agency teams** and external partners.
- Excellent **communication** and **advocacy** skills to engage with children, parents, carers, and professionals.
- Strong **organizational skills** to manage multiple responsibilities and statutory requirements.
- Ability to **handle conflict resolution** and participate in investigations as needed.
- Experience in **quality assurance** and monitoring service standards in a social care setting.
- Commitment to **continuous professional development** and learning from experience to enhance service delivery.

**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 weeks

Pay: £38.00-£48.30 per hour
