**Job Purpose**

**Key Responsibilities**
- Develop and oversee the RI research program and support function next to the global investment teams. Partners with the Global Head of Sustainable Investment and CIOs of the investment areas in developing the overall research program.
- Particular focus on climate strategy focusing on the NZAM initiative and delivering against wider climate commitments.
- To work closely with other Research team leaders contributing to the leadership and strategic direction of RI Research.
- To provide effective leadership and guidance to RI Research Analysts.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of the process, products, trends and developments within the industries and sectors and themes researched from an ESG perspective, and contribute to the house policy and strategy around these topics.
- Help maintain, train and oversee the implementation of eth Newton Sustainable Investment framework. Help maintain the definitions around Red Lines as well as different investment categories
- Support the Sustainable Investment Forum for our sustainable ranges.
- Develop an understanding of the competitive position of companies and products, and of the capabilities of management teams.
- Have an understanding of the strategic position of different industries within the global economy.
- Be a recognised thought leader within the responsible and sustainable investment environment.
- Actively contribute to Newton’s global and regional investment meetings, the research recommended lists, and strategic and economic frameworks.
- Identify and support investment ideas with timely and well-written research.
- Provide leadership within the space and have a genuine interest in evolving the debate around ESG issues.
- Undertake research that is creative and imaginative and pushes boundaries.
- Present investment information to clients and consultants in a clear and concise manner, tailoring the information presented to the audience’s requirements.
- Contribute to the evolution of Newton’s approach to responsible and sustainable investment.
- Liaise with dealing, business development, marketing and other areas of the business as required.
- Recruits, directs, motivates and develops staff, maximizing their individual contribution, their professional growth and their ability to function effectively with their colleagues as a team.

**Experience and qualifications required**:
The successful should possess many of the following characteristics:

- Experience within a relevant role at an investment firm or within the Responsible Investment field.
- A recognised authority on matters relating to Responsible Investment.
- A track record of influencing change.
- Strong and convincing communication skills (verbal and written) and a proven ability to develop and enhance relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.
- A strong command of the issues and opportunities surrounding responsible investment across multiple asset classes.
- A thorough understanding of ESG factors in the context of an investor.
- Proven track record of positive collaborative engagement.
- Thorough understanding of active and thematic investment.
- Experience of managing a team.
