**About the Role**:
PitchBook News is a growing team of writers and editors who produce compelling journalism with original insights. We shine a light on fascinating people, companies and market trends, leveraging our best-in-class data and research to engage our audience. As a team, we pride ourselves on being endlessly curious and building a collaborative, reader-focused culture driven toward excellence.
PitchBook seeks an experienced financial journalist to cover private equity, with focus on the world of pension funds, endowments and other major asset owners who supply funding for the private equity and venture capital industries.
**Primary Job Responsibilities**:
- This writer will also help develop deeper coverage of the private fund industry, reporting on its leading managers and market trends and gauging fund performance
- Coverage themes include relations between limited partners and general partners, capital allocation strategies, fundraising by GPs, cash flow and other topics of interest to professionals in investor relations
- In this role, the writer will be expected to produce a range of content that leverages both original reporting and PitchBook’s best-in-class research and data
- Typical articles will be analytical and forward-looking, combining traditional reporting with quantitative analysis and a heavy dose of data visualization to bolster the storytelling
- This is an opportunity to define and build an expansion of PitchBook’s news coverage; some editing responsibilities will come with the role depending on experience
**Skills and Qualifications**:
- 5+ years of experience in financial journalism, ideally with a track record covering the private markets
- Competency in building complex data sets and performing robust quantitative analysis
- Skill in using tools for data-driven storytelling
- Excellent writing, including an ability to establish a narrative based on conceptual and data-focused themes
- Work well under deadline pressure, sometimes turning out news stories on short notice
- Ability to travel to industry events and meet in person with professional sources
- Write clearly and concisely and requiring little or no rewrites by editors
- Can translate complex financial and tech concepts with an engaging and authoritative voice
- Initiative, and ability to pitch and develop your own story topics independently
- Must be a team player who collaborates across the news team and other departments
- Proficiency with Excel, with the ability to pick up new systems and software easily
