We have an exciting opportunity within the Clinical Support Services Division for a Matron.
You will lead as the Matron for Theatres and Safety & Governance issues. You would also provide support across the Clinical Services Division to your Allied Health colleagues.
The matron role is key to ensuring an effective, innovative high performing team
The post holder will support the delivery of the 5 corporate aims and objectives.

The post holder will provide strong clinical leadership to manage teams within their remit to provide safe and high quality care for all patients prior to, during, and post-surgical procedures, in all pathways. The post holder is accountable for the direct delivery and management of those who provide direct patient care within the theatre environment, and associated areas.
The post holder will deputise in the absence of the Head of AHPs
The post holder will maximise utilisation and efficiency of all operating lists, by managing the patient journey efficiently throughout the pathway. The post holder will be accountable for managing designated activity in line with the contract plan and the associated financial budget of relevant departments. This will include the delivery of a positive financial budget and associated efficiency plans. The post holder will also be the Trust lead for all Decontamination matters, managing the contract and providing expertise across the Trust.
To work closely with heads of department within the Division, to ensure we deliver safe, cost effective, high quality care delivered by motivated and skilled staff.

To deliver safe services
- Provide professional clinical leadership, co-ordinating and assuring the highest standards of care for patients as measured by performance indicators at all times.
- Ensure effective risk management processes and procedures are in place, actively managed, monitored and acted upon.
- Take the lead in ensuring best practice in infection prevention and control and act as Decontamination Lead for the Trust, managing all aspects of the Decontamination Contract and ensuring the Trust Decontamination Strategy is implemented, audited and monitored effectively.
- Be responsible and accountable for the delivery of a safe and clean care environment, ensuring that cleanliness standards are maintained at all times, actively participating in hospital cleanliness inspections.
- Act as patient’s advocate in promoting, and delivering the highest standard of care, and monitor compliance against current policies and procedures.
- Provide support and advice on issues relating to safeguarding children/protecting children/domestic violence and vulnerable adults for nurses/midwives and support staff in the Division.
- Contribute to Clinical Governance, CNST/ NHSLA, CQC requirements, and Research and Development initiatives, providing professional advice and leadership. Provide evidence for compliance and lead on action plans where gaps are identified.
- Comply with Trust policy for management and administration of medicines, proactively working with clinical teams to reduce the severity of medicine related incidents.
- Maintain robust and efficient monitoring of equipment competencies to ensure safe working practices.
- Responsible for the development of theatre specific policies and procedures and systems to manage performance against these.
- Undertake clinical duties to maintain professional competence, authority and credibility.
- Ensure that systems and processes are in place to maintain the health and safety of the patients, visitors and staff.
