This is a post providing training as part of the apprenticeship scheme to become a Paediatric Advanced Clinical Practitioner. The trainee Paediatric Advanced Clinical Practitioner will form part of the Emergency Department clinical team, providing expert care and management of patients presenting to the Emergency Department.

The trainee Paediatric Advanced Clinical Practitioner will be expected to uphold the four pillars of Advanced Practice, providing expert, evidence based care for patients, clinical leadership to assist and advise junior staff with decision making, and participate and innovate in education and research during their training.

You will be given an educational supervisor, and together with the Professional Development Nurse, they will help to build you a bespoke training pathway shaped by your previous clinical experience. As such, this programme will take between 3-4 years to complete. You will be funded to undertake a MSc in Advanced Practice, and supported and supervised to achieve credentialing. Upon successful credentialing and completion of the apprenticeship pathway, your role will develop as a qualified Advanced Clinical Practitioner (8a).

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Provision & Expert Practice

1. Develop a high degree of personal and professional autonomy, making critical decisions independently to assess, examine, investigate, diagnose and manage patients presenting to the Emergency Department with appropriate supervision and support

2. Development of advanced knowledge and comprehensive assessment skills, including ordering and interpreting of appropriate diagnostic tests

3. Receive and make referrals to specialty teams and primary care

4. To undertake non-medical prescribing in line with the Trust’s non-medical prescribing policy.

5. To develop advanced skills and promote the Paediatric Advanced Clinical Practitioner role within the framework of the departmental policies.

6. To work out of hours and weekend shifts as needed to ensure availability of advanced clinical skills and visible clinical leadership in the Emergency Department.
