**JOB DESCRIPTION**
**Job Title**:Housekeeper HK/07/22)
**Location**:Southern Area Hospice, St John’s House, Newry
**Reports to**:Housekeeping Supervisor
**Main Purpose of Job**
As a member of the Housekeeping Team, you will be responsible for insuring that the high standards of hygiene and cleanliness are met throughout Hospice premises, including our Inpatient Unit, Day Therapy Centre and offices. This role also involves washing, laundry and ironing services.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
- To maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control procedures in the In-patient Unit, Day Therapy Centre, The Donaldson
Centre, Mortuary, Relatives Rooms, Offices and all other areas
- Use appropriate equipment and products carry out daily cleaning of vacuuming, dusting, wiping, polishing etc.
- Carry out standard and deep cleaning duties using floor polisher, washing machines and other equipment as you have been trained to use
- Ensure appropriate disposal of domestic, clinical and recycling waste
- Follow daily, weekly and monthly cleaning schedules as directed by the
Housekeeping Supervisor
- Replenish consumable items such as soap, toilet rolls, paper towels and hand wash as required
- Maintain accurate housekeeping written records
- Collect, sort, bag and count laundry
- Washing, drying, and ironing of laundry
- Observe correct use and care of cleaning materials and equipment
- Report any faults in machinery or materials to Housekeeping Supervisor
**General Responsibilities**
- Follow the work schedules laid down within the time limits specified
- Report any incidents or accidents immediately to Housekeeping Supervisor

- Attend and adhere to Fire, Moving and Handling training. and adhere to policies and procedures
- Be familiar with fire drill and safety precautions relevant to your work place
- Ensure a high standard of personal hygiene and neatness in uniform and adhere to uniform policy at all times
- Adhere to all company policies
- To observe and maintain confidentiality at all times
- Adhere to the regulations regarding skin care and all other matters relating to health and safety as set out in the staff handbook. A copy of this handbook is available in each department
**Communication**
- Attend meetings with Line Manager as requested
- Liaise with nursing staff when required
- Co-operate with staff from other departments in matters of mutual concern
**Health & Safety**

You are also required to co-operate fully with regard to the implementation of health and safety arrangements and should not interfere with or misuse anything provided in the interests of health, safety or welfare at work.
