Our client is the UK's biggest end-to-end commercial vehicle fleet management business managing and maintaining a fleet of 80,000 vehicles across 65 garages. They are offering an exciting opportunity for a Workshop Manager to join the team based in Leicester on a full-time permanent basis. As a Workshop Manager, you will be responsible for the safe, legal, and profitable operation of a Pullman workshop. A workshop manager is accountable for delivering a safe environment that is a great place to work in and ensuring Pullman customers receive industryleading service at a site that meets its revenue and profitability targets. Role & Responsibilities of a Workshop Manager - To ensure legislative requirements, Group Health and Safety and Safe Systems of Work are adhered to within the Workshop operation - To ensure the workshop delivers vehicle management and maintenance including a robust quality control process and at all times in line with the terms set out in any customer agreements. - To manage all Workshop P&L / KPI's, Direct and Indirect Costs, Productivity & Compliance objectives - Leading the people agenda to ensure high levels of colleague engagement at site. - To build rapport, develop trust and respect from both internal and external customers and deliver against the key metrics set out any agreements and contracts with them. - To undertake site resource planning and deploy sufficient resource to balance the needs of maximised technician productivity alongside the delivery of work volume and achievement of sales targets. - Lead the sales and new business agenda at site, actively identifying and progressing new business leads, negotiating terms and rates and successfully onboarding and retaining new customers. - Drive operational excellence against Pullman standards reducing operating cost, improving efficiencies, identifying, developing, and sharing best practice across the network. - Right sizing the parts stock holding at site to suit the needs of the operation, ensuring obsolescence is minimised. Controlling the use and booking out of parts in the correct manner to avoid losses, completing stock counts to validate stock levels. - Develop and lead a high performing workshop team and ensure talent, training and succession plans are in place and performance is managed. - Responsible for the recruitment of Workshop team members i.e. Workshop Supervisors, Technicians & Administration - To provide the required operational information and to ensure that departmental systems/reports are maintained - To deal with any disciplinary/grievance matters in line with Company procedures - To provide commentary on daily/weekly operational reports and status updates for review with RGM. - To ensure the timely investigation and resolution of operational and Health and Safety issues - To contribute to the management, development and delivery of effective employee relations practices within a unionised environment - To manage through others by setting targets, objectively measuring performance, providing regular feedback and coaching as required through company PCDR process - To contribute towards the continuous improvement of processes/methods and operating practices within the department - Minimise the use of third party suppliers by ensuring the maximum possible range of activities can be completed in house. - To undertake such duties as may be reasonably required for the effective operation of the function Skills & Experience - Knowledge of fleet maintenance / workshop management (retail site / contract VMU) critical - Sound knowledge of H&S fundamentals in workshops and transport compliance legislation. - Demonstrable customer relationship management skills with the flexibility in style, approach to engaging with a number of clients with varying requirements at the same time. - Excellent commercial acumen - understands dynamics of 'open/closed book' contracts & develops a profit centre approach & culture at site. - Well-developed interpersonal skills with an ability to influence internally and with customers through a variety of methods/mediums. Able to manage conflict and tough conversations with teams at workshops. - Understands how to use IT / technology to drive performance - Ability to motivate and coach a team of technicians to deliver against productivity targets - Able to manage Equality and Diversity issues and creates a culture of respect and "Dignity at Work" for all - Understands team dynamics and composition and applies knowledge to develop high performing teams - High level of self-awareness and takes accountability for own development.
