Our clients’ new 100Gb Juniper core, regional and national ISP network will eventually support 100,000s broadband users and business subscribers spanning tens of Openreach & CityFibre exchanges.

You’ll be passionate about building world class, resilient, scalable, and automated systems, capable of providing analysis from layer 1 through layer 4 of the network. You will have the capability to constantly improve the efficiency of your activities andthat of the systems you help to design and build.

You will work closely with our network & systems engineers to integrate and interface the diagnostics/monitoring with the core network. Knowledge and experience of networking is a bonus.
- Health & Safety: Be accountable for all work carried out adhering to relevant guidelines and best practice
- Security: keep data safe and prevent unauthorised access
- Assist the Head of Systems to produce and maintain the Systems Strategy
- Effective and clear communication both orally and in writing
- Maximise availability of Diagnostic and Monitoring systems through continuous improvement and proactive, preventative maintenance, updates and capacity planning
- Leading root cause analysis in the case of failure.
- Recruit, mentor, develop and manage a team of engineers
- Pay close attention to detail, ensuring the team’s work is delivered to a high standard
- Make decisions that demonstrate commitment to corporate strategy and values.
- Ensure team works to corporate practice in terms of Security, Change Control, documentation, personal development and training
- Establish relationships with and manage performance of system vendors
- Stay up-to-date regarding new monitoring and diagnostic solutions and provide expert opinion on relevant topics
- Lead evaluation and selection of new products and vendors in a fair and open-minded manner
- Define, measure, report and review KPIs that best demonstrate the quality, efficiency and continual improvement of the Diagnostic and Monitoring systems
- Be flexible with availability outside normal working hours to respond to major incidents and execute changes minimising impact to live services

**Essential Skills**
- Previous management of technical staff or a technical team
- Experience within an ITMS such as ISO20K/ITIL
- Extensive experience of one or more monitoring or diagnostics tools, our current portfolio is as follows, so experience in these would be highly valued, but not essential to have all:

- NMS - Zabbix, LibreNMS
- NPS - Kentik/Netflow - Optimise peering/transit
- DDOS detection & mitigation - Kentik/Arbour Sightline
- EXFO OTDR fibre testing
- CGN Logging/analysis - A10 Networks Harmony Controller
- Good knowledge of the standards and APIs used for monitoring/diagnostics
- Some exposure to resilient/HA database systems, such as MariaDB/MySQL and postgres
- SQL querying and reporting systems
- General systems skills in Linux and Windows
- Good knowledge of the broadband FTTP landscape and telecoms network architectures
