Working within a supportive and educationally-focussed environment, the post-holder will provide registrar-level experience in renal medicine in a teaching hospital with all the main medical and surgical sub-specialities.

This role would particularly suit doctors who have completed CMT and also individuals with equivalent experience who are looking to progress to speciality training and also for those looking to go down the non-consultant career grade or SAS route.

There will be opportunities to see and manage in-patient and out-patient regional referrals in addition to attending specialist out-patient clinics such as vasculitis, transplant and dialysis. When not covering the wards the successful applicant would be expected to attend a wider number of speciality clinics as well as providing some sessions in acute medicine.

The post would be suitable for post-CCT fellows or doctors with renal experience who are interested in developing their procedural skills in percutaneous PD catheter insertion, renal biopsy, tunnelled dialysis catheters and also acute post-transplant follow-up. The post holder will also take part in the acute transplant clinic and will help to service provision.

The post holder will share the in-patient duties with other renal specialist registrars (including an element of prospective cover). Whilst covering the wards the post-holder would be expected to participate in ward-rounds and multi-disciplinary team meetings.

There will be opportunities to see and manage in-patient and out-patient regional referrals in addition to attending specialist out-patient clinics such as vasculitis, advanced kidney care, transplant work-up, live donor work-up, peritoneal dialysis, home haemodialysis and in-centre haemodialysis. When not covering the wards, the successful applicant would be expected to attend a wide number of speciality clinics.

**The Renal Department consists of**: 15 Consultants & 9 Seniors including trainees

As a large teaching hospital we have full provisions for all medical specialities and facilities for education, research and learning.

At Royal Preston Hospital we offer the following on-site services and facilities:

- 23-bedded nephrology ward with acute dialysis bay. 28 haemodialysis stations in the main dialysis unit.
- A dedicated Acute Kidney Injury nursing team across medicine and surgery.
- Dedicated day case theatre list for native and transplant renal biopsies
- Separate dedicated renal theatre/procedures room.
- Medical PD catheter insertion and removal service.
- Training and review for home haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients at the Chorley Hospital site.
- Supportive and skilled Interventional radiology unit for renovascular disease, vascular access and high risk renal biopsies.
- On-site access to renal histopathology service including electron microscopy, immunohistochemistry and fluorescence.
- Technical support services and maintenance of equipment for dialysis
- Variety of ultrasound machines for clinical use within the renal unit
- An annual and well respected hands-on international renal biopsy course
- Dedicated vascular access surgical team with regular MDT including interventional radiology

The post holder will share the in-patient duties with other renal specialist registrars (including an element of prospective cover). Whilst covering the wards the post-holder would be expected to participate in ward-rounds, multi-disciplinary team meetings and undertake procedures training including temporary and semi-permanent central venous dialysis catheter insertion, renal biopsies and exposure to physician inserted peritoneal dialysis catheters. He/she will work under the supervision of the renal consultants who lead the 2 ward teams on a monthly rotational basis in addition to the renal Consultant of the week on-call.
