Cheesemonger

George Mewes Cheese, Scotland’s premier outlet for artisanal cheeses, has an exciting opportunity for a cheesemonger to join our dedicated team.

As well as keeping our cheeses in tip-top condition, you will be customer facing and have high standards of service, be enthusiastic and friendly, and have good communication skills.

Specific knowledge of cheese is desirable but not essential, as full training will be given. A background as a chef or in food retail would be helpful and a food hygiene certificate is required.

**What will you be doing?**

As a cheesemonger on our team, you’ll support the shop managers in:
Serving our knowledgeable customers in a friendly but professional manner

Handling retail sales with a high level of accuracy

Carefully tending and presenting our artisan cheeses to the highest standard

Ensuring hygiene is maintained to a very high level (we pride ourselves on this)

Cutting and wrapping cheese and eliminating waste

Preparing wholesale and online orders

Increasing sales and ensuring efficiency and high standards within the shop

Regular handling of heavy objects (a wheel of Comté is pretty big). Full training will be given for this

If you have a driving licence you may be required on occasion to complete wholesale and retail customer deliveries

Any other duties as required

**Relevant information**

The role will require weekend working and there will be holiday restrictions during busy periods (for example, December)

A smart, clean and tidy appearance is expected at all times. No jewellery to be worn with the exception of wedding rings and no strong perfumes

You will be required to quickly learn about the cheeses and grocery items in the shop and familiarise yourself with company policies on housekeeping, storage, waste control, personal hygiene and cleaning schedules
