**Trainee Mortgage Underwriter**

**£ up to £35k permanent, full time**

**hybrid working**.

Reporting directly to the Head of Underwriting, the Trainee Mortgage Underwriter will work through various stages of training to become a fully mandated Underwriter, taking personal responsibility for complex mortgage lending decisions. You will be trainedto:

- Liaise with and make recommendations to the Head of Underwriting for cases above your designated mandate and/or where at least one exception exists.
- To provide internal and external customers with a professional, knowledgeable and efficient service.
- To assist the Head of Underwriting in regular reviews of the Society’s Lending Policy and provide feedback where you feel changes may be beneficial.
- Build and maintain relationships with other underwriters, mortgage operations and sales teams.
- Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of Society products and the criteria and policy attaching to them.
- Learn & maintain an up-to-date knowledge of industry regulations including FCA regulations, Data Protection and Money Laundering.
- Be responsible for the issue of compliant and correctly conditioned mortgage offers.
- Assist the Head of Underwriting & Credit Management and the Senior Underwriter where required in project work, risk assessment and analysis, product design.

**Qualifications and Experience**:

- Experience of working in a mortgage lending or servicing role.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with the ability to collate and interpret multiple, sometimes complex, supporting documents.
- Confident decision making.
- Good team working skills with the ability to work alone.
- Good listening, negotiation and influencing skills.
- An eye for detail with inquisitive, analytical mind.
- Understanding of Lending Policy and Mortgage related processes and systems.
- IT competent including Microsoft Office.
- CeMAP Qualified, CeRER (desirable) or willing to study.
