**Job summary**:

The Innovation Portfolio Lead role sits within the Innovation and Improvement area of the Strategy Directorate and is pivotal in helping to ensure we:
- Use the insights gained from colleagues, customers, stakeholders, and strategic foresight, to identify challenges and opportunities.
This will enable us to take advantage of new and innovative ideas, deliver radical step change and transform the way in which we work. So that we remain resilient to external change and continue delivering high quality, timely and efficient services.

**Job description**:
We are looking for an experienced Innovation Portfolio Lead, with a with a passion for making innovative ideas a reality. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated and applies creativity in problem solving.

You will encourage functions and teams across the organisation to look at different ways of working. Providing opportunities to take their ideas through the innovation approach.
You will manage a portfolio of innovation projects. Co-ordinating the work of multidisciplinary project teams, to test high-risk ideas that have the potential to transform how we work. Delivering proven innovative ideas that are ready to transition to Business as Usual (BAU) or ready to scale.

**Essential Criteria**
- Proven experience in the leadership of internal and external teams in the delivery of complex projects and business change.
- Proven experience of a range of project delivery frameworks and methodologies (including Agile and Lean tools and techniques).
- Proven experience in working within an innovation environment using a hypothesis-driven approach, to manage risk and validate hypotheses (including assumed benefits).
- Ability to establish, encourage and motivate the project team.
- Ability to build effective and supportive relationships within teams, across the organisation and with stakeholders.
- Ability to retain a continued awareness of spend budget available.
- Ability to effectively manage supplier relationships to ensure delivery.
- Ability to communicate, influence and operate clearly and effectively at all levels, including Board level.
- Ability to successfully react and respond to challenge.
**Desirable Criteria**
- Experience of delivering projects and change within a public sector environment.
- Ability to provide input into business cases.
- Experience of supporting Commercial and other colleagues in identifying appropriate routes to market, including frameworks, and effectively evaluating suppliers and ensuring value for money.
