**What you’ll be doing**
This is a thrilling opportunity to embark on a fulfilling career in policy development. Tasked with a wide variety of policy and regulatory-related tasks, you will tackle issues that impact on both consumers and energy industry participants.
Ofgem operates a Flexible resourcing model but regardless of which team you join you will embark on an interesting learning curve as you work with a variety of Ofgem functions to tackle complex problems. Using qualitative and quantitative data to support the drafting of evidence-based policy documents, you will have the opportunity to develop skills in writing consultations, decision letters, impact assessments and more.
**What you’ll bring to the role**
Analytical skills are essential, with an ability to analysie, understand and draw robust conclusions from evidence. You’ll also have good organisational skills with a track record of managing multiple priorities and delivering against deadlines. You’ll be able to communicate issues clearly and will be able to build strong working relationships across teams. Finally, you’ll have demonstrable interest in public policy, decorbonisation and/ or energy.

The current energy market situation is unprecedented. The record increase and volatility in global gas prices has put the energy market under severe strain, and is putting upward pressure on customers’ energy bills. Now more than ever we need to go further and faster in pursuing the country’s climate goals, reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, ensure security of supply and keep the energy system on track to delivering Net Zero.
Bold action is required and we are looking for people to help us deliver a greener, fairer energy system.
Operate a Flexible Resourcing model. You will have the opportunity to work flexibly across Ofgem supporting on a range of projects or may have a longer deployment within a team where you have in-demand specialist skills, knowledge, and expertise.
**Person specification**:
**Key Responsibilities**
- Contribute to the development and implementation of policy reform. This will involve working closely with industry and other stakeholders in Ofgem.
- Undertaking analysis on proposals and their impacts and effectively communicating the benefits, challenges and trade-offs to senior colleagues
- Support the production of key work, such as briefings, consultations, decision letters and impact assessments
- Supporting the project management of workstreams and stakeholder engagement, prioritising, scoping and delivering work and engaging with key Ofgem functions to manage risks and issues
**Essential Criteria**
- Ability to analyse, understand and draw robust conclusions from evidence **(LEAD)**:
- Organisational skills with a track record of managing multiple priorities and delivering against deadlines.
- An ability to communicate issues clearly and effectively, both orally and verbally.
