Due to having to defer University for a second time, we are looking to recruit carers on set

contracts until next August

This post is to support an easy-going young man in Duns with Spinal Muscular Atrophy. He

help promote and support his transition to independent adult living.

He has a great sense of humour and is very capable mentally, requiring physical help with

day-to-day tasks in order for him to manage his life as independently as possible.

He has a very good family support network and he and his mum can give any successful

applicants more information at interview stage.

THE JOB
- To assist with personal care (this includes a shower and toileting), giving medication,

dressing, hoisting and positioning in wheelchair.
- To assist with meals in/out of the home, this includes cooking and aiding with oral

feeding if necessary.
- To drive mobility vehicle if required.
- To assist with medical support as instructed for which full training will be given.
- When time allows carers will be required to assist with aspects of support around the

home, light housework, laundry, etc.
- To join in with computer, board and card games if required.
- The opportunity to accompany the client on short breaks, gaming sessions and music

festivals may also arise.
- Full training will be provided by family and existing carers.
- Due to respiratory issues non-smokers are preferred.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
- We require a cheerful, positive, sociable individual who is able to use their own

initiative, as well as work well with others, prioritise and question if unsure.
- You must have a good work ethic.
- You must be honest, trustworthy and very reliable.
- You must be a good communicator with the client and his supportive family.
- Knowledge of moving and handling and supporting someone with complex needs is

desirable but full in-house training will be given during the probation period.
- Interests in computers, heavy metal, concerts, and cinema would be a positive start as

the client requires 2:1 care and likes to attend concerts and festivals.
- Clean driving licence preferred but not essential.
- Current valid PVG required.

HOURS OF WORK

We are offering 3 shift patterns with set hours.

Option 1

**22 hours per week**:
Wednesday 12pm to 12am

Saturday waking nightshift 10pm to 8am

Option 2

**20 hours per week**:
Friday waking nightshift 10pm to 8am

Saturday waking nightshift 10pm to 8am

Option 3

**10 hours per week**:
Friday waking nightshift 10pm to 8am

Extra hours may be possible

RATE OF PAY

Dependent on age with over 25’s at the rate we are given which is £11 p/h.

Under 25’s rate of pay is negotiable but is more than apprentice/minimum wage.

There is no mileage allowance with this employment.

Paid annual leave entitlement of 5.6 weeks pro rata.
