We are seeking an enthusiastic Dietitian to join our team of 16 Dietitians who work across the acute and community setting. This is an excellent first post as you will have the opportunity to work with other specialist dietitians on a rotation programme to gain valuable skills and dietetic experience in areas such as community dietetics, bariatrics, critical care, diabetes, paediatrics, gastroenterology, and oncology. Although much of the work is face to face, there is some virtual work which will allow for some agile/remote working

Providing a dietetic service to inpatient wards such as care of the elderly, respiratory, orthopaedic and general medicine

Running a weekly clinic for referrals from primary and secondary care such as for malnutrition, IBS, food intolerance, nutrient deficiencies

Managing a caseload of patients at risk of malnutrition in their own homes or care homes across Walsall. This will be done via a combination of virtual and face to face consultations

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 286,700, providing inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities. Work is also well underway on its multi-million pound new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre which will house a new Emergency Department (including Children’s Emergency Department), co-located Paediatric Assessment Unit, Acute Medical Unit and Urgent Care Centre. This is scheduled for completion this year.

Provide a nutrition and dietetic service to acute hospital wards and outpatients. This may include individual consultations, group education sessions, face to face and telephone contacts.

Provide a nutrition and dietetic services for patients in the community requiring nutrition support to include dietary modification, supplements & artificial feeding. This may involve individual consultation, group education and domiciliary visits..

Participate in training initiatives for trust staff, nursing homes,and members of the public in order to disseminate appropriate consistent advice.

Plan and prioritise own workload with support of senior staff as required

Be responsible for collection and analysis of relevant data followed by planning and recommendation of dietetic care within the case load and to seek support when required from supervisors.

Translate and communicate information about disease states and diet to patients and carers so that it is understandable and empowering. This will require counselling skills and basic negotiation techniques

Be responsible for ensuring communication of patient management to all relevant health professionals and carers.

Work as part of the multidisciplinary team, liaising with other professionals as required and attending meetings and case conferences as appropriate.

Arrange discharge and continuing care for patients requiring ongoing support in the community.

Advise catering services on the provision of special diets and menu planning.

Take an active role in student training

Undertake additional training as required to meet the needs of the post

Take an active interest and participate in the total work of the department, providing support to generalservices in times of staff absence.

Deliver services in a flexible manner with regard to working hours and locations
