Help us to shape health and social care policy and practice
The King’s Fund is a leading charity working to improve health and care in England. Our vision is that the best possible care is available to all.
Policy and Research Trainee
**Salary**: £25,023 - £29,886 p.a.
**Contract type**: Fixed term for 24 months, full time (35 hours a week). Part-time options (minimum 0.6 full-time equivalent) and flexible working arrangements considered.
**Location**: Central London / hybrid (see below)
This is an exciting entry-level opportunity for someone currently working in health or social care services who is passionate about improving health and care in England and looking to begin a new career in policy or research.
The King’s Fund has an ambition to increase the diversity of our workforce and to create career opportunities in health and care policy for a broader range of people. This trainee post is therefore aimed specifically at people from an ethnic minority background with experience of working in a frontline health or care role. We believe that diversity of background and experience contributes to a broader collective perspective that will improve the way we influence health and social care policy. This post is advertised under Section 158 of the Equality Act 2010.
About us
The King’s Fund’s mission is to improve health and care in England. We do this by:
- Shaping policy and practice through research and analysis
- Developing individuals, teams and organisations working in health and care
- Promoting understanding of the health and social care system
- Bringing people together to learn, share knowledge and debate
About the role
The Policy and Research Trainee post is a broad-ranging development role that will support the post-holder to gain knowledge and experience of various aspects of policy and research within a specialist health and care policy team.
You will contribute to projects across a wide range of issues relating to health and social care policy and practice (see our website for some examples of our recentprojects). You will gain experience in creating a range of outputs for different audiences, publishing and presenting research findings in an accessible way for different audiences. Training will be provided in skills such as undertaking literature reviews, conducting interviews, surveys and focus groups, and analysing data.
The Fund is committed to a hybrid working model that meets the organisation’s needs, while giving staff flexibility to choose between office and home working. Most staff are expected to work a minimum of 40% from our central London office and are free to work more days from the office if they prefer. We are in the process of developing our long-term policy on this, although the expected minimum time in the office will remain 40% (pro rata).
About you
Most importantly, we are looking for someone who is passionate about improving health and care in England and who wants to learn more about health and care policy.
You will be enthusiastic about gaining the new skills and experience needed to start a career in policy or research and will not have previously worked in a research or policy role. We are particularly interested to hear from people who see this opportunity as unique and critical to their career development.
You will have experience of working in frontline health or care services and will be from an ethnic minority background.
How to apply
Please note that in order to apply, you must have documented proof of your right to live and work in the UK.
No agencies please.
Interviews will be held on the 9 December (role available to commence as soon as possible).
