**JOB TITLE**:
Prescription Clerk
**SUMMARY OF ROLE**:
This is a focused role supporting patient facing administration functions. You will be responsible for providing a safe and accurate prescription service to the patients of Beacon Medical Group, processing acute and repeat prescriptions in line with practice processes.
You will provide efficient administrative support to the GPs, Prescribers, Nurses and other practices staff, assisting with all prescription related queries.
This is a varied role that will see you offering a range services to patients, including receiving and processing medication requests both received in person and electronically, communicating effectively with patients and keeping them updated and informed on the progress of their requests, you will also work closely with your team to introduce new processes improve prescription services for patients..
You will facilitate effective communication between patients, members of the primary health care team, pharmacies and other associated healthcare agencies.
You will also offer general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.
**SALARY**:
Starting rate £9.90 per hour,
Through induction objectives will be set for the full skill set, objectives and KPIs to be achived in 6-12 month period, rate will then rise to £10.07.
**HOURS OF EMPLOYMENT**:
22 hours per week - planned working pattern below
Mon - 13.15-17.00
Tue - DAY OFF
Wed - 10.18.00
Thur - 10.00-17.00
Fri - 13.15-17.00
The surgery operates extended opening times across all sites as part of its business opening hours, as part of employee’s contract there will be a requirement to cover Improved access on a rotation basis.
**PLACE OF WORK**:
The post holder will need be based at Plympton Health centre, but will be required to cover extended hours on rotation across our practice sites.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- To ensure that all repeat and acute prescriptions are processed accurately, and in a timely manner and accordance with contractual and legal requirements.
- To provide efficient administrative support to GPs, Prescribers, Nurses and other practice teams.
- To deal with patient queries professionally and sensitively, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
Prescription Processing
- Process repeat and acute prescription requests in line with practice policy
- Process all urgent prescription requests from other sites. Communicating effectively with patients to consider the urgency and necessity of the request, and process according to practice protocols
- Ensure that all prescription request are generated accurately and efficiently, within the specified timescales
- Identify changes required to synchronise patient’s medication when items may be out of repeat. Keeping patients updated at all times
- Be responsible for ensuring a robust printing, filing and sorting system are in place for branch surgeries receiving prescriptions from the prescription hub
- Ensure prescriptions are allocated to GPs and signed within the specified timescales
- Process medication changes identified in hospital letters and discharge summaries
- Update patients records to reflect the most up to date list of medications
- Inform patients usual GPs of changes to medications, and communicate with community pharmacies of changes to medication for patients who have set up repeat dispensing
- Raise any medication discrepancies with the practice pharmacist or GP
- Arrange and update medication review dates
- Deal with telephone calls or queries from patients, pharmacy staff or other agencies promptly and appropriately
- Support the clinical pharmacists in the development of prescribing hub processes and play an active role in engagement with patients on any service changes
- Liaise with community pharmacy regarding medications which may be out of supply
- Support the GPs and practice team to maximise the use of ETP and repeat dispensing
- Run audits and review prescription processes as required
Patient/ Customer Care
- Keep patients up to date and aware of the progress of their prescription request, using all communication methods available to ensure patients are informed
