**Preconstruction Assistant**
Corbel Conservation are one of the leading heritage contractors within the sector. We specialise in the conservation, repair or adaptation of the nation's historic architecture. Our head office is based in the town of Taunton, however our operations stretch throughout the South West region and occasionally beyond. We are fortunate enough to have the skills and knowledge that allows us to work on some of the most architecturally important buildings in the country.
Due to ongoing growth, we are looking to hire a preconstruction assistant to support the estimating and preconstruction team. The role would suit someone with interest in historic buildings as well as some prior experience in construction admin/estimating.
**Responsibilities**:
The role will provide support with the following activities:
**1. Supply chain management**
- Maintaining and updating sub-contractor and supplier database.
- Sending out sub-contractor welcome packages and collecting H&S questionnaires, insurances and certificates. Keeping record of expiry dates.
**2. Purchasing**
- Searching for new subcontractors and suppliers.
- Negotiating materials prices for discounts.
- Procuring materials and services for sites.
**3. Estimating**
- Handling initial client enquiry. Liaising with clients and architects in relation to the general requirements of their project. Organising the enquires and notifying the relevant members of the team.
- Preparing paperwork and support documents for pre-qualification questionnaires.
- Compiling estimating documents for presentation to internal team.
- Conducting market research and building up material price data base for estimating and preconstruction use.
- Organising information of previous projects. Assisting Business Development with proposal preparation and presentations as needed.
**4. Document control and administration of cloud-based management software**
- Handling clerical, administrative, and general office tasks to support the preconstruction team, including data entry, copying, and filing.
- Supporting site managers in their day-to-day use of Autodesk Construction Cloud project management software. Uploading files to the cloud. Managing users, templates and permissions.
- Academic or professional experience within construction industry.
- Academic or professional experience or interest in heritage or building conservation industry.
- Understanding of building materials, components and terminology.
**Skills**:
- Good organisational skills and the ability manage multiple deadlines at any one time. Ability to plan and organise own workload.
- Computer and IT skills, especially MS Office package. Good knowledge of Excel is essential.
- Prior experience of or willingness to learn project management software e.g., Autodesk Construction Cloud, Procore etc. Interest in new IT technologies.
- Ability to work on one’s own initiative, be proactive and a self-starter.
- Ability to work to firm deadlines, either individually or as part of a team.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
