The Newt in Somerset is a country estate with ancient woodland, historic gardens and far-reaching views; a new and unique destination with luxury hotel, spa, restaurants and an abundance of homegrown produce. Visitors can take a tour of the gardens, deer park and cyder press, dine in the Garden Café or browse our farm shops. Attracting some 200,000 visitors per year from all over the world, our vibrant and thriving garden attraction is animated throughout the seasons by special events, workshops and educational programmes.
**Department Description**
The Engineering Department is crucial to the operation of the entire estate, they manage the servicing, repairs and maintenance across an estate which is growing at a rapid pace. The Department is responsible for ensuring legislative repairs and maintenance is completed in a timely an effective manner, along with the completion of preventative and reactive maintenance throughout the estate.
**Position Summary**
The role encompasses a full range of administrative duties to support the smooth running of the Engineering Department, there will be close liaison with all departments so attention to detail and effective communication will be the key to succeed.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Providing a friendly, professional and knowledgeable service to staff, contractors and suppliers
- Arranging appointments, sending out information and providing further details on contractor engagement
- Co-ordinating the purchasing and receipting of spares and equipment in support of engineering activity
- All connected administration in support of the engineering department
- Supporting the wider engineering team on ad hoc matters
**Skills and Experience**:
- They should be enthusiastic, keen to learn and hard working.
- Numerate with good IT Skills
- To be logical, precise and accurate.
- Being open and honest, easy to do business with.
- A self-starter, proactive and comfortable working in a fast paced and challenging environment.
- Great interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with stakeholders at all levels
- Resilient, motivated and keen to take on responsibility.
- Experience in hospitality or retail is a benefit but not essential.
- A background in engineering / IT support would be advantageous but certainly not essential. This job would suit someone with a willingness to learn and has excellent IT and organisational skills.
