The Radioactive Waste and Health Physics Specialist role is based within our Marine Engineering & Systems business unit.

At our site in Rosyth, we aim to deliver engineering-led and world-leading products and services across our engineering, specialised manufacturing, gas handling systems and naval marine businesses.

**The difference our new Radioactive Waste and Health Physics Specialist will make.**

As a Radioactive Waste and Health Physics Specialist, you will have a role that's out of the ordinary. You will provide specialist support in the development and implementation of the radioactive waste management and radiation protection program at the RosythRoyal Dockyard.
Day-to-day, you will oversee the effective implementation of the requirements of the Radioactive Waste Advisor and the Radioactive Waste Manager in activities required to enable suitable characterisation and sentencing of radioactive waste. Such as, samplingand analysis campaigns, and to contribute to the interpretation of data. You will oversee the effective implementation of the requirements of the Radioactive Waste Advisor, the Radiation Protection Advisor and the Radioactive Waste Manager on the dismantling,segregation, sentencing, assay, storage, processing, packaging, transport, treatment and disposal of radioactive waste and radioactive materials for clearance.

In addition, you will contribute to the development and implementation of any relevant processes, procedures and training related to radioactive waste management and the radiation protection program to implement the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017,including radiological risk assessments, survey programs, local rules, monitoring standards and dosimetry. You will provide support to management and external services to ensure effective practical radiological emergency preparedness, including the trainingof fire departments, site personnel, local hospital and ambulance services as well as the performance of the ESLO role in the NERO organisation.

Lastly, you will contribute and implement radiation protection training for all site personnel, including the development of training and testing material and the regular training and assessment of Health Physics Monitors' competencies to satisfy the standardsfor the baseline nuclear organisation.

**Essential experience**

You will have proven operational experience working as a Health Physics or Radioactive Waste Supervisor. This will be an opportunity to make use of your practical operational experience and work towards a management position.
You will be personable and have the ability to build working relationships to implement standards across the site. You may work in areas which will expose you to ionising radiation (radiation worker). You will obtain or have the ability to gain SC and ITARClearance. Lastly, a membership of the Society of Radiological Protection at the technical level is desirable.
