**Job Description: Receptionist / Health & Safety Officer**
**Reporting to: Registered Manager**

- Ability to communicate appropriately, effectively and sensitively with staff, Clients and relatives and understand the importance of accurate and timely communication within the health care environment
- Ability to work under instruction and within a team
- Satisfactory police check and check against ISA list (where applicable)
**Desirable**
- Current driving license
**Main Responsibilities**
1. Ensure that all visitors to Eastleigh Care Homes are greeted cheerfully and appropriately
2. Ensure that all visitors sign in and out of the visitors book in accordance with Company guidelines
3. Ensure that the reception area is presented in accordance with Company guidelines at all times
4. Ensure that all policies and documentation displayed in reception is correct and in date
5. Demonstrate ability to answer the telephone in the correct manner and forward calls appropriately
6. Various typing and administration duties to include distribution of mail and newspapers, typing of Memos/Activities/Lists/Menus/Staff and Client Lists/Bath Lists, etc., and keeping these up to date at all times. Any other typing relevant to Reception and which may be required. Photocopying or faxing of paperwork for nursing/residential areas
7. Ensure clients’ petty cash is up to date at all times, reporting on a weekly basis. Pay in allowances to their accounts and pay their bills, i.e. toiletries, confectionary trolley, chiropody/hairdressing/ reflexology/shopping etc. If clients request money ensure that it is given in a timely manner. Where required write to the client’s respective families/solicitors/next of kin if they require extra finances. Ensure that a signed receipt is always provided if money is received or handed out from the safe
8. Accept deliveries in accordance with Company guidelines
9. Carry out, and document, regular checks of the fire alarm, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, water temperatures and first aid boxes
10. When required ensure correct completion of accident/incident forms for staff and forward appropriately
11. Demonstrate ability to complete risk assessments and set appropriate times for review
12. In liaison with Training Officer ensure 100% compliance for all staff in Manual Handling and Fire training
13. Maintain a record for the usage of the hoists on a monthly basis
14. Ensure sensitive, accurate and timely communication following the death of a resident
**Health and Safety**
1. Report immediately to the Registered Manager, or senior person in charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a client, colleague, self or another
2. Understand, and ensure implementation of, Eastleigh Care Homes Health and Safety policy, Emergency and Fire procedures
3. Report to the Registered Manager, or the senior person in charge, any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or potential hazard
4. Promote safe working practice within the home
**Training and Development**
1. Maintain professional knowledge and competence
2. Attend mandatory training days/courses, on or off site, as and when required
3. Undertake training identified at appraisal
**General**
1. Promote and ensure the good reputation of Eastleigh Care Homes
2. Ensure that all information of a confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties. Respect confidential information obtained in the course of professional practice and refrain from disclosing such information without the consent of the client/member of staff, or a person entitled to act on his/her behalf, except where disclosure is required by law or by the order of a Court or is necessary in the public interest.
3. Ensure that the security of Eastleigh Care Homes is maintained at all times
4. Ensure that all equipment is clean and well maintained
5. Notify the Registered Manager, or senior person in charge, as soon as possible of your inability to report for duty, and also on your return from all periods of absence
6. Wear uniform as agreed with Eastleigh Care Homes
7. Refer to the Registered Manager, or senior person in charge, any situation which is not within your current responsibility
8. Adhere to all Company policies / procedures within the defined timescales
The post holder must devote their whole time and attention to such duties.
Days to work: Weekends is included
**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
**Salary**: £19,000.00-£21,000.00 per year
