**Everyone deserves an incredible future**
**Become a Trainee Autism Practitioner in Care in Dumfries as a **part of Options Autism and start working towards yours.**
**The opportunity**
This is a new role with an exciting career and development plan, structured to ensure our staff are trained, supported, and continually developed. We want to give you the best possible toolkit, to deliver outstanding care and support to our Autistic Children and young people and help them achieve incredible outcomes.
There will be fully paid courses throughout the year which will help you expand your knowledge, get qualifications and prepare to become a Qualified Autism Practitioner in Care. It is an incredible opportunity to launch your career and see it flourish.
**These homes are located within commutable distance from Dumfries, Lockerbie, Lochmaben and Closeburn.**
**The Role**
Our homes provide specialist care for children & young people with autism, associated learning difficulties, and emotional and socially challenging behaviour. You will use your creativity and compassion to tailor your approach to each individual’s needs. This will involve learning about the young person’s interests as well as their dislikes and their triggers, using that connection as a launchpad for a rewarding relationship. Patience and a passion for this kind of engagement is essential.
You will be responsible for the wellbeing of the children or young people in your care. This will include chaperoning the children to appointments and activities, completing relevant paperwork, delivering personal care, undertaking household tasks, and where appropriate administering medication.
Empathy and warmth are crucial to this role, helping you meet the challenge posed by young people with specific emotional and behavioural challenges.
Working as part of an incredible team of committed colleagues, you will co-operate and share knowledge and learning to the benefit of great care. Excellent communication skills are essential, both in terms of teamwork and - most importantly - as you will be in close contact with the children you care for.
Kindness is key. In this role, a warm smile can make a massive difference.
**Who are we are looking for?**
You don’t need any experience to join our team. If you come from hospitality, the army, outdoor activity centres or an office based job but are eager to help vulnerable children and young people to live happy, fulfilling lives, this is the role for you.
As part of our essential care giving team, you will be flexible, creative and able to act on instinct to find the best, bespoke approach for a wide range of individuals.
Many of our children and young people have difficulty with self-expression and we are looking for Trainee Autism Practitioner in Care who are passionate about making connections and overcoming barriers to communication.
You will be friendly, approachable and kind in your dealings with the children and young people. You will be committed to giving them the space and opportunity to thrive, playing your part in creating a nurturing environment in which they can fulfil their potential.
You will play a key role in the smooth-running of the site, and you will have a good grasp of safety and hygiene, and a conscientious dedication to the young people’s wellbeing. This is a role in which attention to detail really counts - and one that touches the real lives of people every day.
