**Description**:
To develop, co-ordinate and support the evaluation of service user led peer support and volunteering within the service. To support Volunteers, Peer Supporters and/or Peer Support Workers to deliver peer support and volunteering that is grounded in Together’s Peer Support and Service User Leadership models, principles and organisational values. To draw on your own lived experience of mental distress to support the implementation, ongoing development and delivery of peer support in the service and across Together. The role currently consists of three working days per week (22.5 hours) with the possibility to increase to four (within the 9-5, Monday to Friday working pattern). Your responsibilities will include oversight and management of 5-6 peer support volunteers.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Recruit, induct, support and supervise Peer Support Volunteers
- Develop and deliver training for Peer Support Volunteers and staff across teams
- Support Peer Support Volunteers to meaningfully and actively be involved in the development and implementation of the Peer Support Service
- Work in partnership with service users, volunteers, local Service Managers and internal teams to develop a Peer Support Service and share learning with others
- Dynamically assess and manage risk and sharing need to know information with the relevant agencies
- Develop risk management and crisis plans
- Respond to referrals for Peer Support Volunteers and facilitate the allocation of Peer Support Volunteers to service users who wish to access Peer Support as part of their journey towards wellbeing
- Use your own lived experience of mental distress in an appropriate way and act as a role model for Peer Support Volunteers
- Support service users to become involved with our services and empower them to lead on their support plan. Assist people whose care is being transferred between services/agencies by liaising as appropriate
- Enable service users to discover and access appropriate services and facilities. Support service users to navigate and access services available to them as part of the bespoke care plan
- To develop and sustain effective working relationships with staff from Criminal Justice and health agencies, including police, courts, probation and health professionals
- Comply with agreed inter-agency protocols on information exchange, or other arrangements relating to confidentiality as negotiated with Together
- Maintain effective records, including monitoring and evaluation of the outcomes of the Peer Support Service. Record keep, evidence work done and ensure data is entered promptly and effectively on to relevant data management systems. Undertake administrative duties using relevant IT equipment as required
- To work closely with the Service Manager and Data Team to compile data and case studies to enable accurate reporting in line with our service contract
- Ensure that Peer Support Volunteers stay safe and that all aspects of Health and Safety are considered. Ensure that all Peer Support Volunteers work consistently within Together’s service user led model and reflect our values
- Establish and maintain links with Together’s Service User Involvement Directorate and other service user organisations and keep up to date with developments in Peer Support
- Promote people’s equality, diversity and rights
- Contribute to the development and promotion of Together and the service by attending relevant forums
**Skills, Knowledge & Expertise**:
- Passionate about and commitment to the empowerment of people who are experiencing mental distress. Experience of engaging adults with complex needs in the community to address their presenting needs
- Good understanding of service user leadership and Peer Support in a service/project environment
- Personal lived experience of and/or of using mental health services. Ability to use own experiences of mental distress appropriately
- Ability to recruit, train, induct, support and supervise Peer Supports. Ability to inspire and motivate Peer Supports and service users
- Ability to organise own work routines and to work on own initiative to an agreed action plan
- Good understanding of agencies working within the following sectors; criminal justice, secure estate, social care, housing, health and voluntary sector and the relevant referral
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to deal tactfully and sensitively with a range of people, including being assertive when necessary. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential issues with tact and diplomacy, whilst maintaining boundaries
- Ability to organise own work routines and to work on own initiative to an agreed action plan
- Ability to generate trust and credibility when working in a team and be reliable, approachable and discreet.
- Ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with professionals, including criminal justice services, health providers and other agencies
