**What you’ll be doing**

You will work with the development and infrastructure teams to ensure that information security is being considered and risks managed throughout the development lifecycle, implementing appropriate tooling into development pipelines. You’ll be responsiblefor ensuring that the IET’s digital systems are secure by design and that security is viewed across the department as being fundamental to the safe operation of IT system, this will involve close collaboration across teams to ensure best practices are beingadhered to and is a critical element of our overall Information Management approach.

You will have should have a high degree of knowledge of Windows or Linux operating systems, Cloud Platforms (AWS or Azure), Networking, Firewalls, IPS or IDS Systems, Web Application Firewalls, AntiVirus products and other security technologies.

**A little more about the role**
- Ensure good security governance and best practices in both agile development teams and traditional waterfall projects
- Be involved in the build, deployment and ongoing management of digital products and services. Takes a 'hands on’ role in Agile sprints.
- Embed within teams and contribute to new designs, architectures and standards
- Assess our infrastructure and code for security vulnerabilities and resolve as appropriate
- Act as an advocate to the development, infrastructure and IT teams on security best practices
- Define processes and best practices for security across departments
- Design, create and deliver infrastructure, code or services to improve the security of our internal or customer-facing services
- Implement or coordinate security improvements by assessing current situation, evaluating trends and anticipating requirements.
- Contribute to the stability and security of the environment through implementing and maintaining security controls and defining access privileges, control structures, and resources with regular reviews
- Assist in security compliance activities including the development and maintenance of relevant logs and registers, identifying and acting on findings in logs, alerts and system operations to mitigate risk
- Provide a security response service, deal with security issues and work pro-actively to monitor systems and identify issues before they arise
- Assist and/or lead in security investigations as appropriate.

**A little more about what we’re looking for**
- Design, create and deliver infrastructure, code or services to improve the security of our internal or customer-facing services
- Experience in supporting, maintaining or evolving corporate security systems and cyber risks.
- Experience of supporting and developing server environments including Windows, Linux servers, SQL, Exchange, IIS, etc
- Experience of working in either MS Azure or AWS environments
- Ability to balance security risk against the other needs of the business
- Security certification such as CISSP, CISM, CEH
- Expertise in the secure management and deployment of IT systems
- Proven experience in implementation and management of security best practices and risk in high velocity development teams and traditional projects
- An excellent understanding of supporting, configuring and securing Local and Wide Area Networks with hands on experience of switches, routers and firewalls
- An understanding of the ITIL methodology preferably with experience of working in an ITIL environment
- Ability to manage a project from start to completion seeking advice and communicating with all interested parties as required.
- Ability to communicate work status regularly with a clear articulation of design choices along the way
- Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with all levels of staff and customers
- Ability to learn new skills and take on new tasks and recommend and develop improvements to working practices
- Experience of working in an agile development environment
