Premises Assistant

Role Summary: The school Site Assistant is responsible for assisting the Site Manager in the overall running, maintenance, and security of the school’s premises, including two listed buildings and a swimming pool. The role ensures the school environment is safe, clean, and compliant with health and safety regulations, while preserving the heritage of listed buildings.

Site: Undershaw and Tower Road sites

Annual Salary: Undershaw Band 4 - £24,575-£26,293 (actual £26,213-£28,046)

Hours: 40 hours per week, 8 hrs daily between 07:00-20:00 / 5 days per week which includes every other Saturday 07:00-15:00

Terms: Permanent (6 months probationary period)

Responsible to: Site Manager

Key Responsibilities:
Building, Site and Vehicle Management
- To have a basic understanding and knowledge of building maintenance and repair
- To assist the Site Manager in the maintenance, repair, and improvement of school premises, including two listed buildings.
- To assist the Site Manager to carry out preventative maintenance, repairs, and refurbishment works, ensuring high standards of presentation across the site.
- To assist the Site Manager in the upkeep of the school’s swimming pool, including daily inspections, cleaning, and maintenance.
- To assist the Site Manager in the preparation and completion of painting and decorating at both sites.
- To assist the Site Manager with fire safety equipment, alarms, and emergency lighting to ensure the school is fully compliant with fire safety legislation.
- To assist the Site Manager in keeping the school vehicles maintained, clean and tidy in line with the high expectations of the school.
- Be proactive in dealing with and reporting any repairs, maintenance or emergency work required to the Site Manager.
- Assist the Site Manager with any building works during the school holidays.
- Assist with the setup and dismantling of furniture and equipment as required.

Health and Safety
- Under the supervision of the Site Manager, ensure the school complies with all health and safety legislation, including COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health).
- Maintain accurate records of inspections and/or repairs, using internal systems.
- To assist with school cleaning in the event of absence or increased requirement.

Security
- Ensure the security of the school site including being a keyholder and regularly checking CCTV, alarms, and completing security checks.
- Be responsible for locking/unlocking of the school buildings, managing access for staff, visitors, and contractors with other key holders
- Liaise with the outsourced security services regarding the on-call system when necessary
- Facilitate lettings of school facilities, including the swimming pool, sports facilities, halls, and classrooms.

Community and Events
- Support school events by ensuring the site is prepared, clean, and operational, including setting up and taking down equipment as needed.
- Work closely with the school administration to ensure mínimal disruption to school activities during maintenance or repair works.
- Assist the team daily with setting up for the students at lunch time.

Site Assistant: Person Specification

Criteria Essential Desirable

Education & Qualifications - Qualifications in English and Maths
- A City & Guilds or NVQ in a trade or equivalent experience
- Manual handling knowledge - Qualifications in facilities management, health and safety, or site maintenance
- Knowledge of swimming pools

Experience - Experience in a similar role within facilities management, or a similar role, ideally within an educational setting
- Good communication skills, able to liaise effectively with contractors, staff, and the wider school community - A knowledge of health and safety legislation, particularly in a school setting.

Skills & Abilities - Ability to manage workloads and follow clear direction
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
- Strong problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to resolving maintenance issues
