An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Antenatal and Newborn Screening Lead post within maternity services at NGH. We are looking for a professional with a broad range and experience of antenatal and newborn screening and immunisation within maternity services.

You will need to be self -motivated, dynamic, enthusiastic with excellent interpersonal skills and possess distinct passion for maternity service and a drive for improving standards within the antenatal and newborn screening programmes at NGH.

By working with the Matron for Patient Safety and Quality Improvement, and in partnership with the Deputy Director of Midwifery, the post holder will continue to develop the excellent standards of antenatal and newborn screening at NGH.

To support and assist the Antenatal & Newborn Screening Coordinator (ANNBSC) and Deputy with implementing, maintaining and evaluating national Antenatal and Newborn Screening and Immunization programmes locally.

To support with developing and implement systems to evaluate and facilitate service changes as well as disseminate information to women, partners and health professionals about the screening agenda.

To support women and their families with positive screening through the screening pathways.

To deputise in the absence of the deputy ANNBSC.

Professional Responsibilities

Promote collaborative working partnerships and effective communication between all members of the multi-disciplinary team.

Ensure professional and clinical standards are maintained and developed in response to new evidence

Act as a supportive professional role model for midwifery, providing midwifery care in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct.

Take charge of the ANNB screening service in the absence of the ANNBSC and deputy.

Lead on specific designated projects/audits under the supervision of the ANNBSC/deputy.

Organisational and Management Responsibilities

Demonstrate positive leadership and motivational skills in the management of staff as well as detailed knowledge of midwifery and contemporary maternity care.

Develop and maintain a departmental culture which promotes an open and honest approach to professional decision making and problem solving.

Ensure staff are managed in line with current Trust HR policies and processes including appraisal.

Demonstrate and promote excellent interpersonal skills, written, verbal and nonverbal communication styles.

Influence and nurture positive attitudes and behaviours within the team and wider multidisciplinary team.

Support the ANNBS team to ensure systems are in place to meet the National Screening Committee guidance/standards.

Support the ANNBS team to work with multidisciplinary team, county wide in order to provide uniform screening programmes.

Undertake the investigation of incidents including complaints within sphere of practice and feedback to staff to ensure lessons are learnt.

Assist with providing screening education and training for all relevant staff.

Assist with formulating and implement policies, guidelines and procedures related to screening within the O&G Directorate.

Provide advice and support for staff involved in the care of these women.

Assist with maintain up to date information systems on screening services and ensure availability to all members of staff.

Assist with the production of the annual report for antenatal and newborn screening programmes and provide regular reports to the Head of Midwifery.

Clinical Responsibilities

Assist with providing expert clinical and professional advice to staff within the practice area.

Demonstrate an understanding of child protection issues. Initiate/action safeguarding concerns in accordance with the Safeguarding Policy

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist
