Access for Students is looking for experienced freelance DSA Study Needs Assessors to carry out remote and face to face assessments across Wales, the South West and the South East of England.

Pay: £220 per assessment.

As a DSA Needs Assessor your main duties will include:

- Delivering engaging one to one DSA Study Needs Assessments with students. The assessment involves discussing the student’s condition, identifying appropriate support strategies, and demonstrating equipment and assistive software
- Producing professional and high quality reports tailored to the student’s specific needs, justifying the recommendations appropriately and producing these reports in line with DSA guidelines
- Liaising with Disabled Students’ Allowance stakeholders such as funding bodies (e.g. Student Finance England, Student Finance Wales, NHS), disability support providers and higher education institutions
- Reviewing student’s medical evidence and appropriate information in advance of the assessment
- Liaising with institutions and students as required to ensure recommendations are appropriate and implementable
- Undertaking necessary training and professional development to maintain skills, knowledge and competencies to carry out Needs Assessments to a high standard
- Developing and maintaining a working knowledge of current reasonable adjustments and general inclusive practice relevant to higher education institutions
- Liaising with the internal Quality Assurance team & Centre Manager to ensure reports meet all internal standards and checks
- Achieving specific turnaround times for report writing and responses to funding body requests to meet KPIs
- Keeping up to date with industry changes and regulations

Required skills/qualifications:

- Fully trained DSA Assessor (at least 1 year of experience)
- Hold a relevant degree
- Knowledge and/or experience of teaching environments in Higher and/or Further Education
- Knowledge and appreciation of the social model of disability and the concept of inclusively
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely
- Excellent report writing skills
- Ability to work within strict time scales
- Good IT skills and excellent knowledge of assistive software and equipment
- A strong customer service ethos
- Ability to self-motivate and work on own
