**Engagement and Communications Director**
We are recruiting for an Engagement and Communications Director on permanent basis. The Director will strategically lead, and be accountable for, the communications and engagement function providing professional advice, expertise, and leadership on all aspectsof external communications, staff, stakeholder engagement and brand and marketing.
**As an Engagement and Communications Director, you will need to have/be**:
- **Skills**:
- Influencing and negotiation skills with senior internal and external stakeholders
- Coaching skills, including with senior executives ahead of media interviews and parliamentary committees
- Ability to represent an organisation in challenging situations and environments
- Ability to work with ambiguity and changing circumstances
- Communication skills, including drafting content, verbal communications, interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate using a range of styles, tools and techniques appropriate to the audience
- Analytical skills - the ability to provide effective and constructive challenge with senior colleagues to lead and enhance business performance aligned with strategic priorities
- Ability to deliver quality, accurate and targeted communications
- Broad thinking and ability to take various perspectives to tailor communications and messaging appropriately
- **Knowledge**:
- Knowledge of British media and press operations
- Political awareness and understanding
- Understanding of the news cycle
- Understanding of government communications processes
- Knowledge of community relations, public affairs, social media and media relations
- **Type of experience**:
- Media, corporate and political communications, social media and local community relations and stakeholder audiences
- Providing counsel at a senior leadership level across an organisation on public affairs, media relations and wider communications
- Operating within a contentious or complex environment with evidence of effective media, parliamentary, business and stakeholder engagement
- Working at a senior level in the day to day running of a busy press office, proactive media relations, public affairs influencing, issues management and crisis communications
- Leading the development, delivery and measurement of external communications strategies and integrated communications campaigns
- Creating and tailoring persuasive content for a diverse set of communications channels both on and offline
- Leading and managing people, including personal development of team members
- Delivering to agreed deadlines within a multi-disciplinary environment or team
- Working in matrix organisations
- Communications and financial planning
- Delivering crisis management and/or major incident communications
**Details**:
- **Salary**: £91, 000 - £133, 750
- **Working Hours**: Full Time, Monday to Friday
- **Location**: London, with 50% hybrid working
- **Duration**: Permanent
**Role of Engagement and Communications Director**:
- The development of a best in class integrated Communications and Engagement Strategy that looks to drive interest and awareness amongst key audiences inorder to build understanding and support vision
- Direct and embed the Communication and Engagement Directorate function with accountability for its strategic development, outputs and outcomes across each of the functional areas (1. Communications - including narrative, messaging, media relations, publicaffairs, marketing and brand, web and social media, internal communications, and culture, 2. Community and Stakeholder Engagement - including community relations and public consultation, events, and projects across various impacted and interested audiencegroups).
- Drive forward a programme of integrated activities by leading the coordination and alignment of key communication and engagement activities and outputs
- Lead the management of key communication and engagement interfaces
- Lead the development of key stakeholder relationships, partnerships and projects
- Drive forward a brand that looks to creates interest and excitement in what is taking place in the area and that the local community can be proud of.
- Lead the development and delivery of a marketing strategy
- Lead and Chair The Communication and Engagement Panel, attend and support the Community Scrutiny Panel, and support any other key working groups that are established as part of the formal and informal governance process.
