To provide holiday and illness cover shifts on the hospice reception.

**What makes a good Volunteer Receptionist?**

Good interpersonal skills, particularly listening.

Good communication skills, able to take clear notes to pass onto the relevant person.

Able to work confidentially and be patient, tactful, discreet, and sensitive.

Someone who is interested in other people

**Role and Responsibilities**

Welcome visitors and patients to the hospice and complete sign in book

Answer the phone and forward the call to the correct extension or take a message and pass that to the appropriate person if possible

Log deliveries, as they arrive

Frank mail and list names in a file.

Logging of messages for the Hospice clinics

Open up Reception in the morning or close and lock up if covering the afternoon shift.

**Skills & Qualities Required**

Basic outlook experience

Attention to detail.

A warm and friendly telephone manner.

Ability to communicate confidently with a wide range of people and with sensitivity

Good interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and collaborate effectively with colleagues

Ability to receive and give written and verbal instructions clearly

Able to work on your own initiative and as part of a team

Able to assess situations and respond appropriately

**Training and support**

You will receive full training and support to help you to improve your confidence and understanding for this role. You will be required to complete mandatory training before you begin your role.

Regular reviews will take place and an opportunity given for peer support through networking events with other Lewis-Manning Hospice Care volunteers.

You will be invited to attend Volunteer Training Day’s as/when required.

**Expenses**

Reimbursement of out-of-pocket reasonable expenses such as mileage or public transport costs.

Pay: Up to £0.01 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 2 per week
