**The role**:
The Receptionist/Optical Assistant role is critical to the success of our Opticians practices. You will create the first impression for our patients either attending our practice or phoning in. It is essential to be warm and approachable, especially in a medical environment where a patient may be apprehensive about health concerns.

The effective receptionist is able to multitask by responding to the needs of our patients and optician efficiently and calmly. The Optical Assistant will ensure a seamless continuation of care for patients through the whole experience with our practice.

**Duties**:
The role will include such duties as greeting patients, answering the phone, scheduling appointments using practice management software, maintaining electronic records, cashing up, opening and closing the store, carrying out repairs and adjustments to spectacles.

Other regular office duties to ensure efficient day to day running of the practice may include light cleaning, keeping track of supplies and ordering replenishments, maintaining office equipment.

On Clinic days you will provide a supporting role working alongside the Optometrist and Dispenser, to ensure an efficient operation of the day, dealing with all enquiries, processing all electronic NHS claims, processing payments and all other duties.

On non-clinic days you will be responsible for ensuring all other duties are fulfilled, including sending electronic reminder letters to patients, checking spectacle deliveries and verifying prescriptions, fitting spectacles for patients, carrying out adjustments and minor repairs, ensuring all other admin work and housekeeping is kept up to date.

**Working hours available**:
The working day is 9:00am to 5:15pm (with 1 hour unpaid lunch between 1:00 and 2:00). The vacancy is for 3 days every week (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) and 1 in 4 Saturdays per month (on a rotating 4 week basis). This gives an average of 23.5 hours per week. Flexibility is key and there will also be additional hours available through holiday and weekend cover when needed.
