Are you an experienced Trading Standards professional looking for a new challenge within a dynamic and supportive local authority?

East Sussex County Council is seeking a Senior Trading Standards Officer to join our Trading Standards team, working alongside a team of dedicated professional colleagues to ensure the highest standards of trading and ensuring we provide the highest level of consumer protection possible.

As a Senior Trading Standards Officer reporting to the Principal Trading Standards Officer, you will play a key role in delivering Trading Standards services across East Sussex County Council. You will have responsibility for your own caseload, more complex in nature, but you will also line manage a small team of other Trading Standards Officers and provide support, guide and develop them in their work and career.
- A relevant and recognised Trading Standards qualification (e.g. Diploma in Trading Standards).
- Extensive experience working within a Trading Standards environment, with a solid understanding of legislation and enforcement practices.
- Investigative and analytical skills, with the ability to gather and evaluate evidence
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Leadership qualities, with the ability to mentor and support junior colleagues.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Conducting inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with Trading Standards legislation.
- Advising businesses and consumers on their rights and responsibilities.
- Enforcing legislation and taking appropriate action against offenders.
- Collaborating with other regulatory agencies and enforcement bodies.
- Providing guidance and support to junior officers and apprentices.
- Leading on and preparing reports, evidence, and case files for legal proceedings.
- Line managing Trading Standards officers and more junior officers

In addition to your day-to-day enforcement activities, you will also have the opportunity to contribute to the development and implementation of service improvements, policy initiatives, and educational campaigns aimed at raising consumer awareness.
