- At Ofgem, we are at the forefront of safeguarding Great Britain’s energy sector, ensuring it remains secure, sustainable, and resilient. We’re looking for a Cyber Security Associate to join our Cyber Profession team, supporting critical projects to protect energy systems and ensure the security of vital data and infrastructure.
Ofgem is Great Britain’s independent energy regulator. We’re at the forefront of change across the energy sector, driving toward Net Zero whilst protecting energy consumers - especially vulnerable people.
We’re offering a two-year fixed-term role that provides a unique opportunity to kickstart your career in cyber security. You’ll gain exposure to both regulatory and technical aspects of cyber security while developing a wide breadth of skills across our Security, Privacy and Resilience (SPaR) team and our Cyber Regulatory team. Working on high-profile projects, you’ll learn from experienced senior stakeholders while contributing to critical efforts that ensure the resilience of energy systems and data security.
This role offers an exciting chance to build your expertise in areas such as incident response, cyber regulation, operational security, and data protection. You’ll have the opportunity to collaborate on innovative projects across Ofgem and the broader energy sector, gaining exposure to operational technology, cutting-edge cyber research, and regulatory assurance programmes. With comprehensive training and development opportunities, you’ll be equipped to grow and thrive in this dynamic field.
We’re looking for someone with a strong interest in security and/or cyber security, great analytical skills, and the ability to build strong relationships. Whether you’re a graduate, someone with relevant IT experience, or just starting your career in cyber security, this role offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in a supportive, inclusive, and collaborative environment.
At Ofgem, we value flexibility and inclusivity, offering hybrid working options and access to a wide range of employee networks, including the Women’s Network, Young Professionals Network, and more. If you’re ready to grow your career, learn from experts, and contribute to shaping the future of the energy sector, we want to hear from you.
We have a critical purpose to ensure the security and resilience of Great Britain’s energy systems and protect the data and operations that underpin them. This is your chance to make a real impact while gaining invaluable experience in one of the most important and dynamic sectors of our time.
Read on and find out more.
**Job description**:
From day one within the Cyber Profession, you will take an active role in improving security and resilience within Ofgem and throughout the Downstream Gas and Electricity (DGE) sector. In addition to standard cyber security information technology principles, this is an exciting opportunity to actively participate in and learn about cyber security with an operational technology emphasis and be part of a growing and vibrant sector.
We offer a wide range of flexible working opportunities, including flexible resourcing - rotating around the different teams within the Cyber Profession.
There will be the opportunity to develop policy, risk, and regulatory orientated skills (such as engagement, cyber regulation, assurance, data protection, privacy and policy) and operational and technical cyber skills (such as security operations, cyber architecture, operational technology). You can be assured that the roles are stimulating and rewarding, and you will be involved in ground-breaking work. And it’s important to us that we recruit from a wide range of backgrounds - bringing different perspectives and experiences to our work.
Working in the internal Security, Privacy and Resilience (SPaR) team you will be involved in keeping Ofgem secure. This could include participating in incident response activities, researching cyber threat intelligence, developing security policies and procedures relating to data protection and management of information, and multiple assurance type activities such as risk assessments and impact assessments.
Our Cyber Regulatory team interfaces with the DGE sector. Yo
