Southampton, United Kingdom The Supply Room Full time

**Mental Health Teaching Assistant**

The Supply Room is working with bright and inclusive Specialist Schools in Southampton and surrounding areas, which are currently on the lookout for individuals who wish to gain further experience and training to work with the children in their care.
- **We will be completing our vetting process with you over the coming 1-2 weeks, ready for interviews/trials over this time, with an immediate start following a successful trial.**_

Specialist Schools deliver education to students who cannot attend mainstream school due to complex mental health difficulties and/or special educational needs. These roles will have a lot more focus on independence, emotional development, employability prospects, and functional skills in place of academic skills, especially compared to a mainstream setting.

**Teaching Assistant Role**:

- Immediate starts (max. 2 week notice period)
- Full-time (Monday to Friday), Term-time only
- 08:30 - 15:30 (may vary slightly depending on the school)
- Long term and permanent contracts
- Positions in Southampton

As a Teaching Assistant, you will have the opportunity to work with pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis. We work with both primary aged (5-11) and secondary aged (11-16) specialist schools. The students will have a wide range of Special Educational Needs: SEMH, Medical Needs, Specific Learning Difficulties, a diagnosis of Autism (ASD), and cannot attend mainstream school. You will be working with the students in the classroom and in smaller group sessions, always supervised and guided by the specialist Class Teacher or Therapist. Some pupils will display more challenging behaviour and the school will be able to train you in suitable interventions and approaches, as well as proving an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) for you to follow with triggers to avoid/best practices. As part of the support team, you will work closely with the school’s SENCO and senior management team, as well as outside agencies including therapists, physiotherapists, and healthcare professionals.

**Who are we looking for?**
- Good academic or care/support work background
- Prior experience working with young people is desirable but not necessary - i.e., Coaching, Tutoring, Nannying, TA, Youth Work, Care/Support Work etc.
- Outgoing and supportive personality
- Good organisation and communication skills
- An interest about Mental Health and Special Needs support
- The ability to use initiative and work well under pressure

For further information regarding the role, feel free to contact Joshua at The Supply Room on 023 8192 0588.

**Let’s find your classroom**
